Mowatt

Was listening to the Boro Breakdown (excellent as always) and they were talking about Mowatt being recalled by West Brom and loaned out again. I was under the impression though that he couldn't play for anyone else this season (as he'd already played for West Brom) - is that correct?

If so, he's probably stuck with us as 4th choice midfielder which is a bit unfortunate.

He's too slow - he moves like an oil tanker

I mean, i didn't realize how slow he was until i saw him in the flesh - Carrick likes his double pivot to be reasonably mobile

I'd happily lose Mowatt. The standard in midfield drops alarmingly when he plays instead of Howson/Hackney.

It speaks volumes when a fellow promotion rival is happy to loan one of their players out to a rival.

Just pray we don't get 2 injuries for Hackney/Barlaser/Howson at the same time.

If we could, I‘m sure we would return him now, rather than at the end of the season. Same with Muniz. However WBA don’t want him back despite wanting another midfielder, so we are stuck with an expensive bench warmer. More chance of Muniz leaving, but I reckon we will still end up paying his full loan fee and maybe even some of his wages. Our expensive loan mistakes this season along with luongo.

It's easy to say that with hindsight, but when Wilder signed Mowatt (and Luongo), we only had Howson in that position. Hackney was an average League 2 player last season.

Nobody would have predicted Hackney to have the season he's having now - and how much of his great season is down to learning from very experienced players in the same position in training...

Luongo didn't work out for us, but he's played over 200 championship games, so there is a player in there somewhere. Mowatt's played nearly 300.

We were in desperate need of a CM when we signed them, and on paper, without the luxury of hindsight, they were both good signings at the time.
