Motm

Karanka had us playing like clockwork, very regimented very defensive.. when it was on point it was a sight to behold. Total control.

What Carrick has us doing is something else.. beautiful organic football. Defensive overloads, attacking overloads.. the team is fluid, like a living and breathing organism.

2-1-3-4 attacking to a 5-5 block defending.. it’s jazz man, it’s Coltrane playing Giant Steps

Phew.. tapping feet and clicking fingers.. it’s black berets and cigarettes at half time. Babba boo diop.. dee dee.. dee foo dah diddly up..
Genius Newy describes what's in my head but can't articulate

Chuba all day long, sometimes he plays like a midfield general spraying the ball around the park.

I think he’s our best striker since Ravanelli.
Chuba better than Viduka, wow. High praise indeed.

He is on fire at the minute mind, a joy to watch.

Very difficult to choose a motm. Thought Akpom, McGree, Smith and Archer stood out.

I like the way McGree often looks to make runs on the inside when Giles comes forward with the ball. Defenders struggle to track those runs.

Agree with all the above, and also thought Forss was excellent first half. He started the game like a man possessed!
Smith, Howson, Hackney, Akpom, Archer all worthy of Motm today

Viduka was a different type of player to Chuba or Rav, he came alive in the box and was clever at creating space to score.

I compared Chuba to Rav because of Ravanelli’s all round play and particularly his link up play in the midfield.

One or two of the ‘cleverer‘ posters above forgot Rav played for Italy, you don’t get to play for them unless you have all round abilities. Another striker we had who could also play well in midfield was Bernie Slaven.

As you say Chuba on fire at the moment, let’s hope he sustains it.

Howson was brilliant, Hackney was brilliant. Archer showed real signs of why he's going to be a big player for us.

But, Chuba comes deep and just takes one touch, turns, and we are away so often. First class again today. Gets his goal.

Chuba MOTM.

Spot on! Was on another level to every player on the pitch yesterday.

I think Maddo mentioned smiths off the ball running which took defenders out of the way and he was instrumental in numerous chances without touching the ball.

Archer, despite playing well had a heavy touch from time to time and was no where near Motm for me.

Thought it was between Smith, Akpom, who was much quieter in the second half and Hackney.

4th pick would be Steffen who played some really nice balls and made a couple of very good saves and Claimed stuff in the box.

I thought chubas goal was terrific. He had no right to score that and put it in the only place that would have resulted in a goal.

Chuba gets better and better, you pass to him and you know the opposition have no chance of getting the ball off him, he just seems to create space around himself, then picks out the pass, superb.

Surprised Mcgree hasnt being mentioned more. Given his role is to get on the front foot and make things happen, try the unexpected etc he was absolutely brilliant.

Yes all of the things he does doesnt come off but he found pockets of space all over yesterday, must be an absolute nightmare for opposing teams.

***mcgree **Akpom *Hackney

Archer was MOTM for me. If you take him out and put crooks up top we don’t look as electric as we did in that first half

I was actually very impressed with howson. Great assist and timed a risky tackle 2nd half too on a yellow

Agree with the comments. The organic 'team' was MOTM.
But for me Hackney just shades it. Controlled the game against (let's face it) premiership players. Starts our forward play off superbly. Always available to take pressure off the team and always looking for that forward pass.
He's an absolute gem.
I don't think the lads had a bad game. He does all the simple stuff and makes it look effortless. Also has a little burst of pace to go past a man if the space is there. His decision making is exceptional for such a young player. He hardly gives the ball away.

I would probably have given it to Akpom as well but couldn't complain with any of Archer, Akpom, Hackney, Smith or Lenihan getting it. They all had very good games.

A bit surprised so many mentioning McGree further up the thread, I thought he struggled to get as involved as he has done previously. I felt like there was more coming through Forss and down the right. I thought Forss also had a very good game by the way. He works back so well now as well. He must have hit 3 or 4 really good tackles. As well as taking his goal well
