Most intimidating away games.

I’ve had a few in my near 50 years following Boro, never looked for trouble but sometimes it’s intimidating inside or outside the ground , so for me the most intimidating I’ve witnessed are Orient fa cup 78, Portsmouth fa cup 80, Everton 88, Darlington 86 and port vale 98.

Well the word went round it was West Ham but others said Millwall , trouble at the end and ended up getting pushed over the Hordings onto the pitch .

That was a big one

We parked up at the top of a bank that ran straight down to SB
As we slowly walked down the bank there were a few pubs with all these Chelsea fans looking out of the pub windows for anything red, we were OK with no colours on UNTIL this white transit pulls up, covered from front to back in red, the pubs seemed to open & someone shouted Run it was bedlam running down that bank, when i got on to the road what SB is on I darted in to a shop & just bought some chocolate with a short shirt on & MFC tattooed on my forearm it was a bit hairy but I eventually made it in the Boro end

Seconded Maine Road. They had this tiny wall between the Kippax and the corner where they put the away fans.... At least they did in the 70s.

Stamford Bridge when we were moved from seats to behind goal. Then being shepherded to a local tube station at the end. No one had tickets, just put on the first train to anywhere.

Me and my mate stayed in our seats. Had to watch match incognito though. Had a discreet shake of hands on the final whistle. I think it was £7:50 a ticket, a lot of money to end up standing.

As for the thread another shout for Maine Rd, very hostile place.

Chelsea in the Play offs was a bit shaky - 33k Chelsea fans, most of which were what were termed hooligan types, probably boosted by boozed up trouble causers from other teams too.

Leeds in the 70's,
Man City away in the 80s and early 90s, when they were at Maine Road, people who hadn’t even been to the game, coming out of their houses all tooled up (n)
I went to Man City good Friday 1975 on a Beggs coach, which parked right outside the Kippax, IIRC, we then paid in to the ground, unbelievablely a small wall seperated both sets of fans, as time ticked by towards kick off the Kippax started to fill up with their fans edging closer to the wall & looking any miniute to 'step' over the wall & charge to us, about quarter to 3 with both fans goading each other City charged, it was a fast run to the turn style's, I was 14 at the time & a bit worried, someone threw me over the turstyle, funny enough Boro fans were still paying in
Once outside a few of us ended up paying in the seats behind the goal, 50p I think, we took the lead but lost 2-1, scarf under my jacket I made my way back to our coach as trouble was going on after the game
A few smashed windows on the way home it for a chilly journey

Ninian Park in the FA Cup circa 1993. Recall it was like going back to the 1970s. Hostile in and outside the ground. We got a draw. Good job we didn’t win.

In recent years I think some of the west midlands grounds are pretty bad. I'm thinking wolves in particular.

Definitely Stamford Bridge in the play off match, it was an eternity before we got out of the ground after the Match.
