The first time Sky thread had me thinking when I seen Andy Peake leading the team out, who was the most one dimensional, sideways passing, limited attacking Boro midfield player you have ever seen ? Im thinking ‘boring’ might be a bit of a harsh word to use in the thread title, as I’m guessing some of them where just doing the job they were instructed to do !!

Andy Peake for me. There was also a shout for Colin Ross, but that was before my time 😊

Yep, I was going to say Andy Peake until I saw it was first name mentioned. I don't remember him having any redeeming qualities. He used to run like a duck I remember that.

most boring midfielders dont last around long ( like me) its the 2 or 3 seasons plays that stay and that seemingly do something to hold a team together to allow exciting plays to flourish - the Andy Peakes, Adam Claytons, ...boring yes but vital?

Okon's a good shout.

I don't think boring always means bad, but he was both for us.

Doriva was boring but pretty good; I think he got a lot of undeserved stick because he was often seen as being picked at the expense of a forward.

At the time, playing 1 up front was seen as fundamentally negative.

Doriva. I know he did a job for us at a very successful time but I absolutely hated watching him play or come on a substitute. He was definitely the most boring player I have ever seen in a Boro shirt.

If they were vital they weren't boring. Rules Clayton out for me but Okon yes! We had a stream of them in the 1980s. Dull as dishwater that you can barely recall what they were like. Don ORiordan, Paul Ward for starters.
