Morsy: It Was Made Clear From Upstairs Boro Wanted to Sell Me [TWTD]

if the club feel we have upgraded to siliki thats fair enough in my opinion
And, what people need to realize is morsy was 29 and of limited ability.
the club have recognized moving him now is the right financial decision whilst not hurting us football wise
This is probably something NW agreed to after hearing the new DOFs logic looking at the squad and future chances of getting funds for morsy seeing as he’s already 29 and we have siliki coming in

What I took from this, after thinking about it for a bit, was that this is the first we have heard of the existence of a PLAN.

A way to take the club forward that isn't just a short term lunge at getting promoted but rather a vision of how we want to play the game from youths to ressies to first team.

Sad to see Morsy go in a way but I think we can see a future. Yeah, we may have sacrificed a chance at success this season but it is great that Warnock is on board with this (a lesser man might have been chucking toys about) and we see that Gibson still wants the best for the club.

No, any long term plans starts today.

And if that means that we sacrifice one season. Hey ho.
Absolutely, as long as the club stick to it.

We had a long term plan under Southgate (utilise the youth team and develop a squad of talented young players) which was scrapped when crowds dropped drastically and we ditched him for Strachan. We had a plan under Karanka which we started scrapping whilst he was here by buying players he didn't want and didn't fit his style of play. We had a plan under Monk, which he ditched rather than Gibson to be honest. And we had a plan under Woodgate which was scrapped when we looked like we were going down.

To be fair it seems like the new plan with the DoF seems to be an amalgamation of a lot of the precious plans. And they have worked on the backroom staff to ensure that the ethos stays in place regardless of the manager, which is a positive. BUT if Gibson scraps it as soon as it looks like it's not working then the transition seasons will end up being a waste of time.

I trust Gibson's thinking on this and I just hope he trusts himself/his team if it takes longer for the long term plan to bring a return than he expects.

It really isn't any deeper than Morsy was ****. The red was the last straw for Warnock and he got him out.

Sorry to all those who loved his 'commitment'.

I still think those in charge looked at the bottom of a spreadhsheet and said someone has to go and we know we could get money for Morsey and has said his value is not going to rise. I would have kept Morsey and released our third keeper. With Morsey you had something that generally works and does what it says on the tin - stop the opposition.

The attributes SM has demonstrated on the pitch are the absolute bear minimum I'd expect for his position. His problem was he brought nothing else to the team in my view.

I don't think we have weakened the team or the squad in any significant way by letting him go.

Interesting that it was not Warnock decision in any way. Those above decision?- Gibson, Bausor, new guy from Norwich who hadn't even started in the job? How does all the stuff about anti Vacc fit in? or was it irrelvant?

As I have said I was a Morsey fan and would have kept him in the squad. Games like Fulham away this season he battled and battled when on the pitch and helped keep them to 1 goal. Not many other teams will only concede only 1 goal or less at Fulham this season.

On the positive he liked going into training @ Boro and that should continue. His replacement is younger with Sam turning 30 soon. With a lot of competiton for his signature I expect we got all our money back on him.

He has said a lot of positives about the Boro fans too and he only played in 4 Boro games with unrestricted fans. His interviews for Ipswich media did not have to include this but he thought it was important. Good luck Sam you never know what might happen in the future.
Good post, I liked SM & wanted him to stay, as said he was very complimentary towards the Boro & considering he was sold against his wishes proves what a nice person & good character he is, good luck to Sam, hope to se you at the Riverside next season

The old method of ‘getting stuck in’ is a dying one
You need footballers who can control the ball and pass better nowadays.
The Norwich template is testament to this.
Morsy won’t be missed in my opinion
Didn’t we score when he went off against Fulham?

It's irrelevant whether people rate him or not or think he won't be missed.

He's been told that Warnock didn't make the decision to sell, implying he'd have kept and utilised him if it was up to him.

If you take Morsy's statement at face value then the decision to sell him appears to have very little to do with his ability as player.

The old method still commands two positions in the national midfield.

Karanka was the most annoying one, all the youth teams played the same system and were successful with it too.

Whether you kept Karanka or not, we should have stuck to those principles. We had players to play a certain way and there was flexibility in that framework too. A new manager could have kept the same system and been more expansive with it. As Karanka himself was in the play-off final season. Key players from the promotion season were still there when Monk took over. We needed evolution, not revolution.

The fact we were relegated didn't mean it was broken, the problem was mostly down to the fact the players weren't good enough to stay up, it's as simple as that.

Completely agree with you on that. All of the work we did to build a philosophy throughout the club was trashed when we started looking for short term solutions to something I'm not convinced was even the problem.

Hopefully if we're looking at the DoF to build the philosophy and going for a head coach rather than a traditional manager, that won't be as much of a problem. It just needs Gibson to keep faith in the philosophy and not tear everything up at the first sign of trouble.

The difference CTC is that those two you mention can pass and keep the ball - Morsy can only break things up - he does not seem able to control the ball in his possession which is why he gives so many fouls away. - not good enough I'm afraid.

If you take Morsy's statement at face value then fair enough, however I'd check at the window if Warnock told me the grass was green, and so it's likely he's blamed "those upstairs" rather than admit he was happy to sell.

The fact that no other championship clubs tried to hijack the deal suggests that EFL1 is his level.

Maybe the DOF has instructions to be more efficient with players and the squad. He must feel silky is better value over all so we don’t need to pay for another wage in morsy if he not required .

Captained Ipswich tonight, thought he was still banned but maybe that doesn’t apply to the efl trophy
