Mitrovic - Now the dust settled

In the bigger picture of dissent I don't really blame the players either- they will play to the edge of the rules. Sport is about maximising your advantage without breaking the rules in the game.

This is why diving, dissent and gamesmanship of various descriptions thrive in football. You get the same behaviour across all sports as far as the rules allow it.

Change the rules to protect the ref and behaviour will change within weeks. If you keep getting sent off you soon learn or you are dropped.

Previously the referees decision was final. Now the referees decision is a stop gap to the real decision from someone who must get the decision right, and decide quickly. Two imperatives which cannot co exist easily together. There is far more reason for players to harass referees and get them to change their mind. A smart manager would make his most suave and charming player captain. Referees can now be persuaded to change their decisions, this is the best way to do it. Not by shoving them and getting on their face.

Many years ago when Southgate was our captain, there was a movement to only allow Captains approach the ref. That lasted about 3 games and then everyone forgot about it. Its time that the FA woke up and did something about it for the good of the wider game.
I cannot think of any conceivable reason why this shouldn't be (re)introduced - what on earth are the arguments against it ?

You wonder what a ref's punishment would be for pushing a player or manager to the ground. I'd be surprised if he wasn't stood down for a long time.

It wouldn't bother me if he got the maximum ban. feck him and his employers. The referee should be free to do his job without a bit of common assualt thrown in.

Remember this?

No contrition from the club or player.
I don't remember that. You do wonderr why that doesn't happen more, some players feel they can get away with abusing officials.

"Citing “no other relevant cases which assist us directly”, the panel decided that Drysdale deserved a four-match sanction because his behaviour came while in a position of authority."

They do have relevant cases for Mitrovic , the Di Canio case, the ref went over in that but it looked the same amount of pressure on the ref.
I can't believe how Fulham lost the plot, just take the red card and the pen don't decide to blow up the rest of your season while you're at it.

The ref was a bit of a holy hand grenade he checks the handball like he didn’t do for Fulham, Silva complains gets a straight red, Mitro complains and gets a straight red.

Silva was abusive to the fourth official and ref. Before getting sent off then was more abusive after.

But how many times have you seen a Ref taking shoite from a player without the back up of the FA as a whole. I would have loved to have seen refs giving out 10 yellows for being surrounded and hounded but his next stop would be in front of the FA. Players from abroad seemed to be the ones who get into refs faces and think it's right and it will change the game, it never happens but they still do.
I'd like the refs to be miked up. We'd have 3-4 weeks of commentators apologising for industrial language every 3 minutes and loads of yellow cards, then the penny will drop.

Watch it again @newyddion , the refis pushed before the red card, the intimidation comes after. Admittedly the manager's sending off on the TV footage looks soft, buts that's before you realise we have only seen a little bit of his Yosemite Sam impersonation as he is shooting off at the Fourth official which we don't see and there is probably more mouthing off at the ref.

William himself goes all puppy dog eyed and points at his chest where his by now comatose hand is resting, he is doing his best to deceive the ref, maybe Mitrovic believed him and felt a massive injustice with it, but in reality the ref made the right call at every point.

I thought that Willian was pointing that his hand was close to his chest rather than the ball hitting his chest. Either way, it was handball and a penalty.
