Millwall vs Middlesbrough [12/04] Match Day Thread

What a 37 year old midfielder and a left back playing at centre back? I can assure you not a single one of them has had those issues and if your suggesting teams above us have had the injury issues we have and sold their no.1 forward in January then NO not a single club in the country has had all those issues to deal with combined.
We need to stop the excuses game. It reeks of small time mentality.

Poor us and our injuries haven’t we done well to just miss out on the playoffs again.

No one could have possibly foreseen that leaving us with 3 CBs in January, 2 of whom are injury prone, would be a bad idea. Just very very bad luck.

Was exactly the same after Luton, I was absolutely perplexed!
From going to away games in the South, it always seems a different crowd to our Northern away games, almost a 'nicer' section of fans who will just accept rubbish like that and clap along.

He’ll come out with his usual nonsense about how it was a tight game and we played well and plenty of games left.
It’s not nonsense though it was a tight game and there are still four games left. We can get 72 points, don’t think sixth place has 73 yet do they?

The problem we have is the squad we have assembled only has one way of playing and struggles with the basics of the game.

We have players who are ultimately not good enough.

For me it's another massive rebuild in the summer and next season will be harder than this unless we can get some shrewd signings and potentially a manager that can influence a game in multiple ways.

I like Carrick but time and time again his teams lack the fight and application required in this division.

I have sympathy for him as he's had lots to deal with, loss of key players whether loans or sold, constant injuries but the one thing he can effect is the tactics and having different ways to influence a game, we currently have one CF available for the club, crazy.

We are just so soft, a couple of real physical ball winning midfielders needed plus a couple of really physical and aerially good CB.

As a squad from today

Travers (Would Keep)
Dijksteel (Sell, Squad player at best)
Howson (1 year contract but squad player)
Rav (keep but needs to improve, fitness has been an issue)
SIL (looks OK at times but not bothered either way)

Morris (Keep but could have intersst)
Hackney (Keep but could have intersst)

Burgzorg (Squad player at best)
Azaz (Keep but could have intersst)
Whittaker (Not done a lot yet)

Conway (Keep but could have intersst)

Forss (Sell, like him but always injured)
Mcgree (As above)
Iheanacho (Gone)
Giles (Gone)
Glover (Not bothered)
Fry (Sell, like him but always injured)
Barlaser (Squad player at best)
McCabe (Loan)
Woolston (Loan)

Then players who are currently injured
Bangura (Sell, like him but always injured)
Doak (Gone)
Lenihan (Sell, like him but always injured)
Edmundson (Squad player at best)
Ayling (Squad player at best)
Borges (Keep)
Dieng (Sell, Not bothered if we can get Travers)
Brynn (Keep)

Coburn ( Keep)

There's a few other young lads out on loan but in looking at the above, we are just not a very good squad, ageing, injuries, limited ability, on paper it looks like some good players, but fitness, tactics and ability just isn't right, sad really as on our day we can be a really good team and played some great stuff but we don't have the mentality or ability to adapt as players and coaches, changes across all levels will be needed in the summer and it will be even more difficult next season so the decisions have to be made immediately post the season end and the objectives of next season as we are sadly now very much just a mid table championship club that flirts with progression.

It’s called being a supporter, some people have a be more resilience. They players didn’t stop trying l. They were absolutely brutal 2nd half doesn’t mean you can’t clap
A couple didn’t bother tracking back after losing the ball a few times, including Hollywood Hackney for their winner.

Gibson, keen to sell his best player in the last 2 January windows….. seems a really dumb move for the teams chances to me.
I think Gibson's appetite for gambling on promotion has diminished over the years.

To be fair, our chances of promotion with Lath or Rogers were still against us at the point we sold them.

I do think "bigger picture" we're on the right track. That doesn't mean Carrick shouldn't be moved on. But without parachute payments it's hard to get promoted. So selling and reinvesting keeps us sustainable and in with a chance to get lucky one year.

And despite what some think, we do need luck (alongside a good manager, good recruitment etc). Eventually the stars will align, but we need to make sure we're sustainable and in the mix until they do. Which sadly means developing talent and cashing in on it.

We had our chance when we had Archer, Ramsey, Chuba etc but we made the fatal mistake of taking our foot off the gas and not getting going again.
Since then we've had some decent players but nowhere near that quality. We can produce in spells, but not consistently.
This summer will be a big rebuild again and the hope that we can get enough quality to improve.
Without parachute payments then you either need a load of luck in the market or Ipswich-like momentum on the back of a promotion.
It's very likely that all 3 relegated clubs will go back up this season unless Sunderland can upset the Blades (most likely).

I can't see Luton going up!

I think it was about 6 minutes into the second half when the clumsy rvb skewed the ball out of play and from then on in we seemed to lose it. Even madison mentioned it on radio

Key moment
