It's Millwall 2022 chaps......

Not Millwall 1970's

Nothing different to any other away trip
That isn't quite true is it. Not every away trip has a dedicated away fan station for instance. Or a situation where supporters are kept apart completely before and after the game.

Maybe, but many of their fans aspire to the 70s image.
I live over 2 miles from the ground, and I can get a bus there(probably won't be allowed to for the return journey). I lived in many parts of south London and know and have known many Millwall fans. So, yes the Millwall of 2020s comes to mind. They're not the knuckle draggers that 1970s documentaries about hooliganism screened when Millwall was mentioned. However, the nearer you get to South Bermondsey and the Den, the "tougher" Millwall fans become. They can be polite people off matchdays, but come matchday, that nice young man in the office is suddenly chanting racist abuse and threatening violence to opposing fans. Yes, all teams have these fans. It's just that Millwall have a higher proportion of them in their fan base. So, it's right to be wary: they are "hard" in their neck of the woods

Can I hoof this up so more fans see this - I was lucky to be able to go on BBC Tees to plug that after the match the police will escort Boro fans to the two tube stations of Canada Water and Bermondsey, both on the Jubilee Line - from there you can get to Kings Cross etc or onwards into London etc.
South Bermondsey Rail Station will be closed on Saturday so the overland railway route is not possible to or from the New Den.

True, but I too used to live nearby and now it seems most Millwall fans live and grow up in Kent. Most of the population near the New Den are Nigerian/West African.

Some like to live up to their old reputation but I think its just that. Most Wall fans seem to like Boro too.

Just my experience 👍.

Rob......if Canada Water & Bermondsey are both on Jubilee line, why are the coppers escorting fans to both ?

Surely it makes sense to escort the away fans to only one of them !!

Cowards Way was built in the 1990s to protect away fans from missiles - when trouble was dying out at most grounds. The peak of trouble Nationally for me was the mid-1980s. I still don't consider Millwall safe.

Everyone should be OK on Saturday, but keep alert. Hopefully there will be extra police on duty.

Pubs around Deptford and New Cross were always a bit lively after any Millwall home games. Had an unpleasant experience with an Asian mate not so long ago after a Millwall home game (non boro related).

You'll probably need to leave before the end, but go from Bermondsey via London Overground to Highbury and Islington then get the Victoria Line back to Kings Cross. It's a little counter intuitive but usually quicker going from South of the river to Kings Cross.

You'd be safer Jubilee to London Bridge and then Northern to KX. It will take 20-25 mins tops.

I'm pondering going via The Overground to/from Surrey Quays. It would be ideal but service on the line ends at 6pm. Need to be sure the police don't stop people getting away from the Den, or I've missed it. Also still looking for a map * that shows how you get to/from South Bermondsey. It's all railway lines rather than actual streets! It's not a normal ground.

Remember it's a reduced service prior to 6pm, in effect the last train could be well before that.

They might just go to one. Am hoping they communicate clearly tomorrow at the match. So best listen out

It's a hell of a long way to escort several hundred fans. There's a couple of breweries on the way to Bermondsey, by the way.

It will be disorganised chaos. You'll have them trying to make all the fans go in a particular direction when many of them will want to go in another. It's a chance for Millwall fans to have a pop at a set of away fans that they don't usually get.

Even though we were held for an hour last year, some of them were still waiting at the station, kept away by a line of police.

Indeed. Fourpure is near the ground, by the way, but I wouldn't go there as it was where Johnson and Sunak went for a photo opportunity back in 2020.

Yes and I have spoken to them about last year and the hour long hold. Apparently because there was a cancelled train. I also fed back to the Millwall Safety Officer that many fans would not be heading back to the north east but the vast majority would want to get back to central London. If Cleveland Police come back to me I will let you know. But it appears there will be police making sure we get safely to our underground trains. That is the message they want me to communicate. I checked again this morning with Millwall.
