Millwall away Train Strike

Pretty much......

I work and guess we could strike. I imagine everyone in every profession feels underpaid?

I fully understand the rights to strike. I'm not a clown. I've worked for nearly 35 years.

I don't use trains. So frankly doesn't effect me. Yet its clearly effecting average people who are already struggling. Thats not just football. I'm Taking getting to work or seeing family members in hospital etc.

Its sending a message yet effecting the very working class people who need them in these awful times.

Are they just going to strike forever?

They're not just striking about pay, you moron.

Surely this would have more validity to postpone than the Brighton v Crystal Palace match, they are only 30 miles apart not 250 miles apart?

No chance of it being called off. FA were careful to say that the train strike per se wasn’t the reason for the cancellation of the Brighton v Palace fixture. It was a police decision saying that they didn’t want 4000 Palace fans all travelling by road to the game.

The train companies effected by the strikes on 8th Oct are below, the operator from London Bridge to South Bermondsey is Southern Rail, so does that mean those ones will be running??

The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has also announced strikes for 1 October and 8 Octoberamong its members at Network Rail and 14 train companies:

  • Chiltern Railways
  • Cross Country Trains
  • Greater Anglia
  • LNER
  • East Midlands Railway
  • c2c
  • Great Western Railway
  • Northern Trains
  • South Eastern
  • South Western
  • RailwayTranspennine Express
  • Avanti West Coast
  • West Midlands Trains
  • GTR (including Gatwick Express)

Thameslink not affected either so you could theoretically get a train from say St Albans or Stevenage to London Bridge and get to the ground

When I came up from London for WBA game there was a strike on. LNER had one train an hour running although a lot of them only went as far as York. I managed to get up getting the earlier train even though I was told I was on wrong train as my(cancelled) train had been reinstated. How was I supposed to know that no emails or fvck all.
The after tea time there was no trains at all north (after about 5 or 6 if I remember rightly). They are being run by the management and you can't expect them to work over to provide a service😱😭.
So I'm afraid if you make it to London it's unlikely you can get back on the same day.

Grand Central are not on strike book with them if you haven't booked yet. They have settled with their drivers and have no issues unless RMT action affects them.

Apologies to the LNER and other UK rail users. I was not ignoring you - I just know Boro fans come from all directions to London Bridge so we all have in common the need to use the London Bridge bit.

Which rail company operates London Bridge to Bermondsey?

I do remember the 1970s, but can't remember this many strikes.

When you go on Trainline, it says Southern rail.

Three strikes in a week… the unions want to be careful as the tide of support will be turning against them
We all accept the cost of living crisis exists and the this government are fooking over the rail workers, most people don't blame them for striking.

That maybe so, and people will tolerate a level of disruption for a just cause… however push that goodwill in the public to the limit and your just cause goes out window and you lose public support.

Once you lose public support you fine your goal even harder to achieve

Let’s not forget, the rail companies want modernisation and cuts as the service is still hemorrhaging money due to low passenger numbers since COVID… people are working from home more and more. If you make it even more harder to travel then they won’t travel at all and you have made the bosses job easier to justify said cuts and modernisation

If that last paragraph is true why did Transpennine pay 500 million in bonuses last year when passenger numbers were likely lower.

Read the article and it tells you why… they have won government contracts with no risk to themselves… they are essentially giving away government money.

It doesn’t mean they can’t turn around and demand reform for low user numbers… after all they are trying to make money not give it way.

The whole system is rotten

I did read the article and don't you think it's even worse that they are giving not Government money, as you seem to think, but actually taxpayers money to shareholders.

What we need to get are all the options for Boro fans travelling from the north east and also how to get to Bermondsey. Will those trains be running out of London Bridge?
We need the correct info. Then we can work with Boro to ensure everyone is fully informed.
