Mike Ashley

Agree with him suggesting that pay per viewing of Premiership matches should be priced lower at £5 in the run up to Christmas. Is he considering the current financial situation everyone is facing and showing a bit of early Christmas cheer. A cynic might suggest that the terrible take up of subscribers @ £14.95 may have a lot to do with it. What say you?

They will charge what people are willing to pay. He may have some level of intel to suggest that people won't pay that between now and then. I'd be VERY surprised if it was purely about putting money back into people's pockets, but maybe I'm too cynical of him.

I had to double take whether it was THAT Mike Ashley . I’m confounded that he’s gone public in expressing his benevolence for actual footy fans , especially concerning money . There’s something amiss !

When Mike Ashley and Piers Morgan are consumer and political voices talking a great deal of sense........:oops:

I seem to recall a thread a few weeks ago in which you defended this charge? I’m not sure and apologies if you didn’t but it was clear from the outset that this wasn’t going to sit well with fans during a national economic crisis. I and many people foresaw that at the time and it doesn’t surprise me that this isn’t going away.

Never 'defended' it at all. I just said I don't care what people charge for products I won't be buying, its up to them. If people feel they 'have to' pay for extra matches at at higher price than they are comfortable with then that is simply a battle they have to win with themselves.

You didn’t condemn it and it needs spoken out against.

£5 is a lot more palatable than £14.95. If these games were not deemed worth of being televised in the first place, why slap a box office price on them?

Its not like a boxing PPV that has hours of undercard content.

We are having to pay £10 to watch our games online with a poor quality picture and no real analysis of the game. Im not sure why this hasnt received the backlash that the PPV has had.

If people continue to pay it they will only charge more, same reason why its £25 to watch any decent boxing.

Yeah I was a little annoyed at the weekend.

I have a season ticket so get the home games for free, but then I also bought a overseas season pass to ensure I get all the away games as well. Went to watch it at the weekend, and had to pay an extra £10 as it's on foreign telly.

I know it's listed in the T&C's when you purchase, and is beyond the clubs control, but feels wrong somehow.

I don't begrudge paying £10 to see Boro play at Cardiff in the middle of this pandemic.
(I too am a season ticket holder - and we do get all the red button matches free too, not just the home matches)
The quality wasn't great and there is disruption, but at least there are replays and I get to see my team.
My old Dad and eldest son were all able to watch on saturday.

I very much feel for people watching alone and without £10 to fritter on it, but that's a different debate.

Yes those additional “free” red button matches are a good thing for Sky subscribers. If they made those PPV though it wouldn’t be popular And I do empathise with Prem fans railing against this additional charge.

I do wonder how many paid for the West Brom Burnley or Brighton v West Brom games. if they get it down to a tenner it’s something for fans of those clubs. I wouldn’t pay to watch it at £10. A fiver I might as a neutral.

I think the best thing for the premier league to do is the games that aren’t broadcast on Sky or BT , the clubs should get the opportunity to stream it from their clubs website at a price of ten pound per game as we do.

Premier fans have got a pot of £300,000 from boycotting pay per view .
Good on them .
I turned off Burnley v Spurs last night after 20 minutes , glad I didn't have to pay for it .

Portents of a fan rebellion to come. Who would be interested in the proposed European Premier League? Chelsea v Dortmund on a Tuesday night with nothing on it as there will be no relegation.

As a financial lifeline for clubs and entertainment lifeline for fans, then PPV is a route through this pandemic.
But I do think we should be careful what we wish for in the future re PPV. It needs serious thinking in context of the league's structure and collective broadcasting rights.

Why? Not purchasing is the best (and only) way to condemn it. They can't charge £15 unless enough people pay £15 and endorse it.

If enough people are paying the £15 then no amount of whinging on forums will convince them its too much.

Cynically trying to increase his popularity.

It's no coincidence that he's only raised his voice the day before they're caving and probably dropping the price anyway.

Pay your money and take your choice, these games are all outside of what you pay for as part of your subscription. Some people are actually savings a lot of money and still being able to watch the game which is a good comprise given no one can actually attend the game.

People who might ordinarily spend close to £80 for a parent and child to go to a premier league game or perhaps £45 upwards for themselves why are they complaining about paying £15 to watch it on TV, I don't get it, am I missing something? Can someone explain it for me please?
