Mike Ashley has bought Psyche

Yea reading the article it felt like they were running out of options - it was either sell up or go to the wall.
 
I wonder if he has any plans to relocate? A move to the Binns or Debenhams buildings may inject a bit of life into the centre of town again.

Well given the purchase of psyche includes the building then surely he will leave it there.

He probably will, but buildings (and the ground they stand on) can be rather valuable. I bet nobody would be totally surprised if that land was cleared for apartments or some such.

I'm not sure that the land will hold much value in Middlesbrough as time goes on given that we'll have nothing left other than Ashley's empire

Can’t see him moving it opposite to flannels. Long term I don’t think there’s place for flannels and psyche in the town so will be interesting to see what happens. I think Psyche relies a lot on online sales.

Psyche has a lot of international sales. Big in the far East I believe so he might incorporate Flannels into Psyche set up, after all there is plenty of room.

Then it may make sense to move to a larger more attractive premises that could be run like a proper department store again. With Psyche and Flannels under the same roof, one or two ladies outfitters, perhaps a cycle shop, the mountain sports shop and a TV & music store who knows?

Hope not, though I don't think he'd have bought Psyche to fill it with tat because he already has enough capacity for that. As far as Binns is concerned, I do hope he can make a go of it because I can't imagine how the town would feel if both Binns and Debenhams closed down.
Perhaps my suggestion of a change of premises is a bit of wishful thinking on behalf of the heart of the town centre.

Yes hopefully they will stick to the brand principles, they did see the mention of bill buying in there which I expect would apply to the more common brands but hopefully psyche retains its distinct personality!
 
And interesting that Cyril Williams helped push the deal through working for Mike Ashley, proper boro lad is Cyril
Played footy against him many times in our younger days.
Think Mike Ashley bought his clothing business also a few years ago

Is Cyril the lad who had the clothes shop at the entrance of the bus station??
 
I didn’t realise he bought The house in June mind .

Bit surprised he bought psyche not sure what profit is in it other that buying the building . What Ashley is getting though is decent people in steve and as previous in Cyril , not always easy bringing the right people in
