Midfield

With Payero allowed to go back to Argentina I was expecting some cover to arrive sharpish. It never happened.

With Bournemouth sniffing around Tav, I was expecting us to have someone lined up to fill that roll. It never happened.

Howson is on his last legs and was given a 1 year extension, I was expecting a replacement to arrive and Howson be more of a bit part player. It never happened.

Mowatt was not good enough for another team at this level, yet we take him and make him a starter.

The midfield is the area that dictates the game. We can’t control the midfield with one paced players. They aren’t good enough defensively and certainly aren’t good enough offensively.

It’s shocking.

Our mf is an embarrassment it’s non existent.

What stands out like a sore thumb is, like you say, they are all so one paced. The lack of creativity and ability to change a game with a flash of brilliance is glaringly obvious.

This is what happens though when you fill your squad with hard working British plodders.

Midfield without Tav is a disaster, for all those that doubted him please take notice of the shambles without him he was such an important player for us, we are so weak without him.
Can't believe we had no adequate replacement lined up, such poor Management

Its proper amateur hour stuff isn't it

When the 1st choice midfield 3 start to struggle, we have absolutely no one else to bring in. Perhaps Luongo and Stephens (if he signs) will help.

Add to that our defense which generally looked OK last year is really performing badly.

Even after our bad start, I was thinking that this was going to be a good season. Not anymore.

UTFB 😟

Thing is we don't know who we tried to buy, who we got beaten to etc.

I reckon we were in for people but it didn't line up or clubs wanted too much so we decided to go down this route and til the gaps with the likes of mowatt and luongo until the next window. Historically not a great window though as no one wants to weaken mid season.

Realistically I see this as a rebuild season and despite all the excitement at the start I sort of expected this. You don't put 10+ players in a team and expect them to gel right off the bat with each other and I think it'll take a bit of time to hit stride.

Sacking wilder is madness, we need to get off this carousel of managers as it's expensive and just leads to the next manager doing a rebuild. We need to back the man we have and the players we have. Which manager will be better? And what about when he doesn't deliver, who then? We've got a manager a premier league club wanted. With premier league and promotion experience. Let him do his thing and back him else we end up like Watford.

But by the time we assemble a team we the lose the likes on Munuz and Giles, we then strengthen one area leaving ither areas weak again.

Its a known fact, you need some pace/legs in midfield, our midfield are too samey samey!! slow, one paced, no positive running off the ball or with the ball.
Mowatt- Runs like he is treading water... no wonder WBA got rid...
Crooks- always has a heavy 1st touch, which often leads to loosing the ball
Howson- often taking too long on the ball deciding where to pass or what to do... (Maybe that's because no one is running creating space)

So we only brought Giles and Muniz in to make sure we stayed in the division while we rebuilt? Or was the thought that - you never knbow it might click quick with the new guys so we'll have a punt on these two?

Season after season after season we have good areas of the pitch and a clusterfuck in another area.

I would put Djiksteel in there. He has loads of energy to play box to box and gets stuck in. We lack grit and bite in the midfield and definitely energy and pace. He is a better option than anything I have seen so far this season. Lenihan or Bola can play in a back 3 so let’s get Djiksteel into the middle.

I refer to my opinion on September 1st.

And from the very same thread.

This.

Exactly this. ☹️

If we didn’t have the funds to build a team capable of promotion this season we should have tried to build a squad that we can improve year on year. Instead we have once again filled our squad with loans who will be gone in the summer and then another full rebuild which will set us back even further

It’s laughable the way this club is ran

These Payero threads are getting a bit repetitive. He wasn't good enough when he was here. If he was still here, he'd just be another player for fans to complain about.
So let me get this straight.
People say something was a stupid decision and it will cost us.
Then the stupid decision starts to cost us.
People say - look it has cost us.
You dismiss it with 'the threads are repetitive'

If he was still here he would be a yound pair of mobile legs that we could put on to the field in place of players who are doing an impression of running through treacle.

He’s a damn site better than mowatt

Why do people keep saying he wasn’t good enough he played in the side that beat Man U at old Trafford and he scored against oh yes Cardiff

I would personally like to see a midfield 3 of Dijksteel, Howson and Mcgree. And line up similar to the start of the second half yesterday where crooks dropped deeper alongside howson and mcgree behind the front two.

It would be harsh on Crooks but at this point we need to try something different.

I would not be against crooks/luongo/mcnair playing the second deep role instead of howson.

We are giving up too many goals - so rather than one deep two pushed on - switch it to two deep - and one of those should be dijksteel so there is some pace and drive
