Middlesbrough Women FC - New Kit Sponsor.. and their badge.

Not sure but a very brief discussion was mentioned here when I've just quickly Googled it.

Picture stolen from that thread
I mean.. they sponsored the team and the team used the sponsorship money. It was only for one season by the looks of it. If anything oneboro let the side down by not continuing with the sponsorship. I assume the money went towards kits.. what else would you expect? High fives ever week and eternal gratitude?

By the sounds of it they were engaging with the forum and doing features but once they got they money they basically stopped talking to them straight away. So thats why I think it was a bit off. I wouldn't have expected anything beyond the season but at least try and show some gratitude while the sponsorship was in place.

Most likely, but the costs are largely self generated but, as usual with MFC, all the clubs money is ploughed into the football team and the rest of the club is ran on a shoestring.

Exactly. Like most things at the club. Relegation means cutbacks to staff at all levels. When they could just cut one squad player and promoted a youth team player instead they'd have saved lots of different projects / jobs in the community.

Someone need to sort their badge out tbf

I quite liked this one from Nick Budrewicz (looks like Inter Milan liked it too!)

I like Nicks work - very clean and uncluttered!

That Lion badge looks like something from the 1980s - No offence to the designer.

Their affiliation with the men’s team is fairly limited these days. They used to have the same badge and kit, but usually different sponsors. They seem to be going separate ways over the last few years, but not sure why there isn’t the association with the main MFC as you’d expect.
It was probably a loose affliation and then cutbacks led to them breaking off fully.
Hopefully with the success of the national team we can bring that team back into the fold..

Definitely. There's a lot more money in the women's game these days too, which may make the likes of Boro want to invest more in the women's teams.
Just seems daft them having a different shirt, badge & sponsor. Could be the signing of the summer!!

Am just arranging an interview with Middlesbrough Women FC coach, Andy Campbell.
If you look back yesterday I posted about watching Mbro Women at their new home in Stockton Town FC and then watching the Lionesses final. Chair Ben Fisher contacted me a few days ago and we had a small piece in the fanzine and on the message board about the match and the Euros Final on Sunday. Hopefully, we can give some proper coverage to the team this season.
Am also in contact with Maz Wieczorek former Middlesbrough Ladies manager and of course England player. Marrie works at the Foundation coaching in local schools. It was great to see her at work last season in February in a Middlesbrough school just before the England international at the Riverside. The great thing is these kids, Primary boys and girls know all the England Lionesses players names. They also know the Boro players too. One end result of the sessions is trips arranged to watch Riverside games fr the children. Many have seats in the GRFZ with their families. It is so encouraging to see things building here.

watched the highlights and it reminded me of something someone mentioned some time ago.
its along the lines of ‘the women’s tee’ in golf.

Is there a case for reducing the size of the goal?

Considering England only conceded 2 goals all tournament that does not seem to be an issue.

And they scored 22. So, it might be more an argument for increasing the goal for men rather than reducing it for women.

I've been to see Boro Women play a few times in the past, both when they played at Thornaby and Billingham and it's a shame that they are now struggling to compete at the level they used to. Sides in the Premier Division and even Division One (which they were relegated to last season) have strong links with men's sides and quality funding/training facilities whilst Middlesbrough don't have either. They bring through quality youth players - Elyssia Boddy moved on to the WSL last season - but even other sides at the level Boro have been relegated to are getting strong funding from the men's side - Newcastle, for example, are getting full funding and even played a sold out game at St James' Park last year.

I'm sure a certain amount of funding for Women's sides is able to be written off against FFP, but Boro still being unwilling to invest in the women's side really seems a little strange. Especially as it is starting to grow and could, in a few years, bring financial rewards to the club if they fully integrate the women's team into the club. At the very least, it would fit with the ethos of Middlesbrough being a community club.

And, yeah, I personally think the Women's kit - both home and away - were far better than both of last years' men's kits. The men's away kit is far better this year though.

I prefer white shorts with red trim that the dark blue shorts. The away strip is very good.

What harm would it do to play some games at the Riverside, opening up the West Stand, selling merchandise in the MFC club shop and splitting ticket revenue for women's games.

This weekend was their very first game at the home of Stockton Town FC. It will be interesting to see how this works out - it is a big upgrade facilities wise and profile wise for the Middlesbrough Women. I hope we can give them increased coverage and really help support them.

They have won their opening two games which is a good start and they play Newcastle ladies in a few weeks who have just been taken over by the Geordies full time.
