Middlesbrough vs Norwich [26/04] Match Day Thread

I'm liberated!
I was working on the van all afternoon, no radio on, no score alerts, only the WhatsApp at full time to inform me of the score.
Not sure I could have sat through that after suffering on Monday.
I like Carrick, but it'd be a massive surprise if Gibson doesn't pull the plug on his time here. Massive summer ahead to even maintain a top half squad I reckon, because there's a lot of players there who aren't good enough, regardless of who is in charge.
Stat of the day for me was that Carrick is the Championship's longest serving manager. He has been in post an unbelievable two and a bit years. The game's gone.

I dont like changing manager, it rarely improves things and you lose momentum which is why I have wanted Carrick to stay but after today's awful effort I have to say his time must be up, he just does not look like he can improve use beyond playing this flat and stale football

The only positive is that we only have one more week of this utterly dire and predictably disappointing team and head coach. Then we can enjoy our summer.

Trouble is we’ve got a week of

We can still do it
If we beat Coventry
Coventry are on a bad run
Millwall and Blackburn have tough games
Carrick will come good
Why so pessimistic

I think you get the picture

Sometimes it is really hard being a Boro fan but sadly it’s in our DNA. You just wish it could be less upsetting and disappointing?

The other positive is it's so obvious that most of our flaws are with the manager that it won't take much for someone else to come in and turn things around.

There’s a best before date with any manager and Carrick has plateaued and now regressed as a manager at our club.
He has to go guys, you all know it.
If Gibbo has anything about him then he will have started the process of sounding out our next manager already.

The lads who I know personally who have been staunch Carrick supporters have turned the last 2 weeks.
There's only the totally deluded left.

Sad really because I had hoped that Carrick and Woodgate would have the knowledge and drive to be perhaps the new Clough and Taylor, but it seems not to be. Perhaps finding a couple of good strikers from out of the blue as Boro did, is just not enough. We have to hang on to them. Selling Latte L half way through the season without an adequate replacement was an act of harakiri.

I have until today not looked to seek a change in manager. Today our gutless, uninspiring couldn’t care less display changed all that. The team and management is rotten top to bottom. They are a team in Carrick’s image - nice but with no passion, desire or fight.
Let’s get in a proper proven manager at this level - get rid of 70% of this abject squad and have a proper go at promotion.

And all we have to do is beat Coventry away and hope other results go our way. Well I'm very confident that we'll do that, given our last three performances...

Yep.

The usual suspects are going to be back on here abusing people for daring to be unhappy about today soon enough.
It’s already starting, I’ve seen a couple of we played ok today, if we’d kept LL, beat Coventry etc

I always wanted Carrick to be a success but there comes a time when you have to admit he’s just not very good.

I'm apathetic and not at all fussed about the club right now.
I read somewhere this week that people who say "it is what it is" are the most dangerous people to be in a relationship with as they will just show you the door if you aren't trying.
I'm at that point now with the Boro

Realistically, we are not good enough yet. Not good/consistent enough to be in the play-offs. And if we get there, we sure as hell aren't good enough for the Premiership. It's not such a bitter pill for me to swallow in as much as I have no desire to see us in the Premiership, but I know that few of you will see it that way, and I understand that. How many points have we dropped by conceding soft goals playing out from the back? And why? Because the players we have aren't good enough to play the way the manager wants.
So either we get better players or maybe a manager who works with the strengths and limitations of his squad.
I am not a "Carrick out" type, because at times, he has had us playing some of the best football I've seen in all my years as a Boro fan. If it's a long term project, fine. But we need to do better in terms of keeping our bnest players instead of selling them. But then I'm not bankrolling our Saturday afternoon (type 2) fun.
