Middlesbrough on a night time

My mate got attacked in the town centre on a night out only a week ago

I know it isn’t comfortable to talk about , but I think there is a decent bit of racial tension in the town centre too
Was there a racist element to the attack on your friend Boroboyyo? I haven’t really noticed a racist element in Boro recently, but I’m not there regularly on a weekend evening.

Every opportunity to slag the place off.
It's constant.
As if Teesside and its people stand out as being especially rancid compared to the rest of the UK.

I notice stores like M&S shut their Linthorpe Road doors well before 5.30pm which they never used to. There seems to be far fewer people about after 5pm.
As a non-local, that's what stands out to me. After 5, it's like in a western when the town shuts down because the outlaws are coming.

It’s a strange layout as well in that most of the bars are concentrated at either end of the pedestrianised bit of Linthorpe Road.

Last night we walked through there from Baker Street to down near the train station, and we didn’t see another soul. Very much like a ghost town. Hopefully when they open Captain Cook Square with all the leisure / restaurant stuff that will help

Not if there is no shops to come into town for. If there were decent shops people would come in go for lunch and it would be a nice atmosphere. Can see it being pubs that open one or two nights a week like Flares and are open until the early hours.

I had this conversation with my old man after we got back from the Watford game. When we went to Vicarage Road a few weeks ago me and my mate parked in the shopping centre car park and spent an hour there before making our way to the game. As a town, Watford is a bit smaller than Middlesbrough but their town centre shopping area is hugely better than ours. Its on a completely different level.

I know quite often local pride kicks in when discussing such issues but Middlesbrough town centre is dreadful. Its a poor place to shop, a poor place to eat and a poor place to go for a few drinks.

York doesn't feel the same. Why is that?
You tell me......(y)

Revealed: The ‘most dangerous’ streets in York

>>>>>
According to the Civic Trust, York’s areas identified as the most dangerous are:

  • Cinder Lane and railway bridge (behind the station)
  • Along the river between Scarborough Bridge and Clifton Bridge
  • Rougier Street
  • Clarence Street
  • Stonebow area
  • Tang Hall Beck cycle path
  • Hob Moor
  • Love Lane and railway bridge
  • Blue Bridge and New Walk.

Recent tragedies in the UK remind us that the issue of our safety from harm in our towns and cities is continuing; sadly, York is not exempt,” the trust says.

“Despite modernity’s assurance that ‘these types of incidents are very rare’, this can feel hollow based on our lived experiences.”

I go to York quite often and have never felt unsafe or uneasy late on an evening.

Middlesbrough town centre on the other hand!
