New dates have been confirmed for one of the region’s flagship cultural events following the recent bad weather.

Middlesbrough Mela 2023 will now take place at its traditional home of Albert Park over the weekend of Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9.

Final preparations are being made for the region’s biggest multicultural event and fans will be delighted to see an even bigger and better main stage line-up of artists and entertainment.

Organiser Kash Patel said: “After the disappointing reality of having to postpone Mela for the very first time in its history, we have pulled out all the stops to make sure we are bigger and better with a jam packed, back to back line up.”

Hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Jasmine Takhar, the two-day spectacular will also see headline acts from the beautiful Bambi Bains and international superstar F1rstman.

Host Jasmine Takhar is no stranger when it comes to British Asian music and recognising new emerging talent. She fronts the BBC Introducing show on the Asian Network which brings brand new unsigned talent to the forefront and is the first place where you will hear the next big track and your new favourite artist.

She is also very familiar with hosting big festivals up and down the country but this is her very first time at Middlesbrough.

She said: “I’m really excited and looking forward to hosting the Mela as I’ve heard so many good things about it.

“The line-up is incredible and having worked with many of the artists that are on the billing I know it’s going to be one big party you don’t want to miss!”

Held in Albert Park, the free family festival is a firm favourite in the Middlesbrough events calendar attracting more than 50,000 people over the two days.

International Qawwali group Mustafir will play the Saturday, whilst headliner F1rstman will fly in especially to perform his set to round off the weekends activities.

Singer, model and dancer Bambi Bains is also on the billing having performed at Glastonbury last year, and is certain to get pulses racing when she struts her stuff on stage. Other well known acts from the bhangra scene include Metz n Trix, Gubi Sandhu, Sazia Judge and a whole lot more.

As well as being entertained, visitors over the weekend can also enjoy an array of incredible food stalls and the popular market bazaar.

A host of family-friendly activities will be available in the park including arts and crafts, sports, games, street performers and a funfair.

Everything kicks off from noon but those planning to attend are advised to get there early to enjoy a spicy party in the park.
  • Middlesbrough Mela is on Saturday 9th September, and Sunday 10th September in Albert Park.
The event is free for all to attend and tickets are not required.
