This is worrying. Parts of the country go into lockdown with no exit strategy. How long can this continue? It spikes, so we lock down, it eases so we get back to 'normal', it spikes again so we lock down again.
 
Another u-turn tonight. Bolton now in line with Greater Manchester after getting a load of stick from Tory council all week. Utterly clueless. It’s from Saturday- why not immediately tomorrow and same when the lock down in Birmingham it was the Tuesday after the announcement on the Friday.

That's not entirely true. There have been huge benefits from the restrictions so far in terms of medical progress. Getting a bad dose now has far better potential outcomes than getting it six months ago would have done. Considering how badly it's been handled by government, the public have done remarkably well. As long as these local measures are adhered to there's no reason for them to be anything more than short sharp shock measures (with a natty new three word slogan).

Any increases need nipping in the bud quickly or we're just going to end up in another 6-month lockdown which nobody wants.

There was a large murmuring on social media just after that press conference saying that the graph pre-supposes all current measures were no longer in place. It was stupid to use it without a clear explanation but this government have done a lot worse over the course of the pandemic so far.

It's almost as if they're trying to discredit experts. Whodathunkit?

Just to top up the pot: Leicester remain in local lockdown whilst death cases in Nottingham continue to rise alarmingly and are almost within a nats widger of Leicester. - yet there are no restrictions whatsoever.

Tomorrow, the national idiots are gathering in the Old Market Square to tell us covid is a hoax and lock-down serves dark-forces. Its all a big conspiracy aparently.
They can foxtrot oscar - if wearing a mask helps protect me and others from dying of this virus, then il wear one!

Many of the towns youngsters and some oldsters are planning Fri/Sat nights out in Norton, Yarm, Stockton and Guisborough. Belter. Who is going to stop them Tigger Hancock and Blojob the Builder? Don't think so. Only thing spreading faster than Covid currently is goverment driven stupidity.

Deaths rising alarmingly in Nottingham? er, no. You have have read the Nottingham Post which states:

"In the week up to September 18 (the latest data available), two people died as a result of the virus across Nottingham and the wider county.

This marks an increase of two from the week before, when no deaths were recorded."

Or you may have more recent info, I'm not sure.

Deaths will rise, no doubt. Alarmingly? Depends on your definition. React study, symptom tracker app showing promising signs of a slowing of case increase. Key thing to keep an eye on in hospital admissions/ICU bed occupation. I know doctors 'on the ground' and while there has been an increase it has not been what many predicted.

Covid is clearly not a hoax but some of the recent media coverage has been appalling and simply plays into the hands of loons who think it is all made up and that all vaccines are evil. I might pop down to market square, I like a good covid discussion.

Well places like Leicester must have been in lockdown for at least half of that now and MP Simon Clarke said the lockdown here could be in place until the spring.

If wearing a mask doesn’t help (and many scientists believe that) are you ok with tpeople who believe them, not wearing one?

If Trump can catch Covid with his protection, it seems to me there is very little we can do to stop us getting it.

I guess I’m in the ‘they probably don’t do any harm camp’ but I woudn’t get that excited about others who thought differently.
