Middlesbrough In Film

I`m sure that is my Grandad,Hughie Davis, next to the ships Skipper @02.17.He was the chap that sailed the ships, after launch,on their maiden voyage out of the docks to check all the engines and dials etc were working correctly and in sync.He was a Scotsman a very clever engineer and a funny bloke too, always made me and my little bro a toy each for Christmas out of whatever wood or metal he collected along the dock.

Vespa, the term is " Sea Trials".Where they run everything to maximum ( usually around Tees Bay) before handing over to the owners. Do you and your brother still have any of the toys?.
I recognise the two guys just after your grandad, on the after deck of the Tug. Worked with them both as a boy, they were Men in their 40's/50's by then.

Hiya Osboro, thanks for the correct term for his job, something i did not know.Alas those toys, and my little Bro,are no longer around. They were the last gifts opened on Christmas Day when Gran and Grandad came for tea.I remember getting a little wooden boat with a mast and sail with rigging that could be hoisted on a brass spool and a metal robot that Geoff got and kept for years.

middlesbrough in film part 2

Brillant and moving footage.I sometimes wonder how their Teesside accent compares to modern day tones.I was pally with Gerry Clough,Brian`s brother,up at the local pub watching the football, although our accents had softened his was noticeably different to mine.He always called Middlesbrough Middlesbro, and his seemed more of a throw back to maybe a more monotone type than the sing song i can hear in todays accent.
