Middlesbrough fighting it out with Cardiff to sign Wigan striker Kieffer Moore having turned down QPR an Millwall - 17:38 hrs today.

Is this the Hugill who was castigated on this forum? You know, the one who many fans were ready to 'drive him back to West Ham'?!!!

I've always said I liked Hugill, worked hard and would have done well with a partner, my only criticism of him was the needless diving that rarely won him any free kicks.

But he wasn't worth the fee West Ham were trying to get for a permanent transfer.

Hugill scored goals at PNE and for QPR. The fact he didn't for us is pretty much 'standard'. We are a forwards graveyard.

Clearly Moore would suit the Warnock 'style'. It was also widely reported that we paid around 2mil to loan Hugill. That would have bought Moore😂

It would be nice to have a big No9 who's actually decent in the air. Fletcher looks like he should be....just not physical enough / Nice. Rudy wasn't good at anything🙄

This might be slightly taking this thread off track - but who would John Hendrie and Paul Wilkinson be similar to in todays market?

It was slightly before my time, would they be similar to a Hugill / Jordan Rhodes type of level... or were we just lucky they weren't at a 'bigger club'?

Why has everyone done a 180 about hughil. You all thought he was dog **** a year ago.

I still think Hugill could have done a job for us if Pulis had have utilised him properly. He is limited but we never played to his strengths.

Looking back I find it bizarre that Pulis played him as a lone striker, and left him completely isolated by playing 3 central midfielders.
He should have either had Braithwaite playing off him, or paired him up front with Assombalonga. I always remember a home game vs Blackburn, where we were down to 10 men and he gambled 2nd half and went with Britt and Hugill as a front two. I remember a moment in the game where direct from a goal-kick, Hugill headed the ball on and Britt was through on goal. That's proper route one football, which Pulis was known for yet we never executed it effectively during his time here.

Agreed(y)
Pulis "lone Striker" strategy meant Hugill was always surrounded by opposition defenders as soon as he got the ball.
He didnt stand a chance.
With two quicker players down the flanks he might have had the opportunity to hold up the ball and play it off to them: but Fletcher has little tackling ability and Assombalonga loses the ball too easily.
Im suprised Jordan stayed with us as long as he did.
