Middlesbrough, baseball champions

Interesting fact. While researching for my DystopianBoro micro dystopias, I discovered that Middlesbrough were National Baseball Champions in 1892!
Derby Baseball Club build the Baseball ground later used forfootball and Steve Bloomer who played for Middlesbrough had played baseball for Derby.

The Middlesbrough baseball team were originally linked to Middlesbrough FC but formed their own company before becoming champions.

Quoting from a paper written by Dr Catherine Budd entitled "A Sport for the “Yankee-like enterprise and energy of Ironopolis”: Baseball in late nineteenth century Middlesbrough"
"In August 1892 Middlesbrough beat Derby St Thomas’s to win the English Baseball Cup in front of 3,000 spectators at Middlesbrough FC’s Linthorpe Road ground. “There can scarcely now be any doubt”, stated the South Durham & Cleveland Mercury, “as to the place which baseball is destined to occupy ere long in the race for popularity as a summer field sport in Middlesbrough”.

My Dystopian version of that:

Other things that I've also learned since I started doing DystopianBoro: pitches are now all basically artificial (after we banned QPR and Luton from having them), professional footballers are already cyborgs, and I can't spell.

A former writer for Fly Me To The Moon actually acquired the English Baseball Cup. He was an expert on baseball history as well as football - I wonder what happened to the trophy and all his memorabilia.
