Mick Jones

Indeed. BAD were brilliant

He was just one of those few punk trailblazers that shaped modern, edgy music. With the various members of the Pistols, Slits, Banshees, Clash, Damned and Buzzcoks etc.
A total reset for music and 40 years later those raggamuffins are still a corner stone of music. Not sure that's what they imagined at the time!

I love BAD especially. Seen them a few times 1st time around at the Mayfair in Newcastle. And I'd say recently, but just looked it up, and it was 11 years ago at the o2 academy last time.

Grant Schapps' cousin....

Never got enough credit for his songwriting as the media luvvies swooned over Strummer

Strummer got the attention, cos thats what happens when your the frontman/lead singer - him and Mick worked well together writing the songs (mainly).

Mick produced the latest Subway Sect album ' Moments like These' and played on it.

massive collector of comics, i know the bloke who is his main contact for comics (honestly - his name is Paul McCartney, a nice bloke) - he has nothing but good to say about Mick, as Harry says above, he is a very decent chap and very approachable.

i would question the 90% musical talent - cos Topper was one hell of a drummer - the human drum machine - he could drum jazz, soul, & funk before he joined The Clash - the reggae and rock came afterwards.

In the same way that The Clash wrote a wonderful 'pop' song in Hitsville UK, a wonderful 'pop' song by BAD is Just Play Music

I was lucky enough to see BAD a few times in the 80's, Brixton Academy, The Astoria a couple of times and most notably at Milton Keynes Bowl (Supporting Simple Minds) on the day of the England / Argentina Maradona Hand of God game.

The first album 'This Is Big Audio Dynamite' is easily in my top five albums of the 80's.

Nick (Topper) started out playing in a piano trio which did everything from tea dances to jazz gigs, as well as doing loads of playing with different types of bands around Kent. By the time he ‘found’ himself in Clash he had a lot styles sorted.
He played a bit locally after he was heaved out, but then stopped playing altogether.
He’s well, healthy and happy with a lovely missus.
Like Strummer said, one of the worst decisions he ever made was kicking Nick out of the band.

I saw Mick interviewed on some TV programme and he was sat in a standard sized front room of a semi detached house. It was absolutely rammed full of memorabilia that he had kept since the Clash formed upto when the interview was being filmed, late 2000's I think. He's an avid collector and will have stuff that's priceless in both forms of the word.

yes - he collected everything (and more) - he did the 'rock n roll library' up under The Westway, (it may have been in one of those rooms that you saw him) - it was his collection of items from like forever - strange obsession with war imagery.

Mick, Joe and Paul all said that Topper was the glue that held the band together. Great drummer, and the most accomplished musician in the band. Kicked out because of his drug problem, but it was accepted it never affected his playing.

Joe kicked Topper and Mick out..... certainly wasn't his greatest of decisions.

I’d better own up. Nick is a mate. The reasons why his sacking happened wasn’t exactly for the reasons people think.
He did alright. Rock the Casbah was mainly his….the original lyrics he wrote for it were hopeless😉 they were rewritten.
He got a good royalty points on it. Then Will Smith covered it. Kerrrching!!
