Michail Antonio

Who’s said he was driving badly?
It is a straight bit of 40mph road coming out of a slow bend, I'm sure the authorities will consider medical, mechanical, external as well as driver error as reasons for the crash.

With regards to driver error, it isn't hard to imagine a less skilled driver than Antonio & obviously I'm not talking about him or this crash, accelerating hard out of the bend, the backend stepping out on the wet road, so they oversteer into the slide, full lift and brake, suddenly weight is transferred to the front tyres, they regain traction, the car swings round like a pendulum and the driver & car disappear off the road into the scenery.

it might be time for advanced driving lessons for people that want supercars on the public road, they seem to crash far more frequently.

Out for at least a year because of the injuries, surely got to consider retiring if it's that bad, he'll probably be 36 by the time he's fit again and surely won't be the same player anymore.

It's arguable that he was heavily on the decline before this. 21/22 - 16 goals, 22/23 14 goals. 23/24 8 goals, 24/25 1 goal by december.

He was a strong physical player not particularly a technical one, once his pace and strength dipped then he would decline rapidly. He's had a very solid career, and won a european medal, and played for quite a few years at the top tier, but yes, it's probably just about over now. Best case is getting a run out as a sub at the end of 24/25 season and then he'll be out of contract and looking for a short term contract at a champo side at best.

Needs to work on his physical and mental health right now and forget about kicking a bag of leather around for a while. There are more important things for him to think about.

Yes its definitely possible, and yes, its possible he was at fault. My point is only that nobody knows. Given the weather this weekend I'd imagine there's a fair chance that has played a part. Fingers crossed he's ok and makes a full recovery.

I doubt he'll be able to afford a 2012 Dacia Duster with his insurance premiums now.
I saw something the other day where a few people now are just starting their own insurance company, when the insurance goes above 20k as basically it's miles cheaper and you can insure your risk elsewhere fairly cheap. A lot of people who have multiple expensive cars do it etc.

You can’t just start your own insurance company. You need to be FCA approved, especially for a mandatory line like motor.

Yeah, of course there will be approvals required, but getting them isn't all that difficult it seems, for your own fleet at least. Obviously the rules change if you're selling to others.

Now I think about it more, I've seen it mentioned quite a few times on various YouTube car channels and the like, and I think the first who mentioned it was Mark Mcann when nobody would insure him on his Lambo Vento and that was in the summer, sure I've seen more since too.

You can set up your own cell captive, but we are talking serious revenues, typically USD/EUR/GBP50bn+. However, this all changes if you include a mandatory line, such as motor or EL.

Yeah, this is definitely not typical, and extremely niche, and they 100% don't have billions, they have low millions at best. But there does appear to be people doing it with 4-5 cars plus worth say 1m+, and where their driving is split between them. i.e when you're driving a 500k lambo, there's another 4+ you're not driving, so they're at little risk unless someone steals them all.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Yanni and Matt Armstrong talking about it too (both very big names in YouTube/cars etc), and I think they found out about it through supercar dealers.

Insurance isn't my field of course, but I deal with our broker when sorting out our EL, PL, PI and Fleet insurance, and claims and have done for 15 years, but still know fairly little about it.

I'm not sure why they don't do fleet insurance, it costs us ~6k per year to insure 400k worth of cars and 300k of commercial vehicles, and one of those is a 100k Low loader which drives around with £500k machine on the back of it. Maybe it's their fleet insurers who are a nightmare adding cars?
