Well that’s a nice sound bite but technically it’s incorrect. A contract is worth the amount stipulated in the contract which is almost exclusively more than the cost of a few pieces of paper .

I think you know where I'm coming from.A player or manager signs a new long term deal months or so later some interest comes in turns there head suddenly of to better things.Loyalty doesn't exist much in football now.

It does but a longer contract also protects us compensation-wise and to be honest Carrick would only dump us for a couple of key jobs and he would need serious success here to be considered for those roles. Carrick isn’t wilder, he’s a bit more of a team person and less me-me-me.

So, yes I think if he’s signed a three year contract it’s nothing but good news all round

That's what it's about these days is to protect the club money wise which in a business sense is good but loyalty doesn't come into it much.

It’s a bit unfair to tarnish all players and all managers and all clubs as not really having any loyalty.

Sometimes a club and a player or manager just fit. Carricks a decent guy, I don’t see him as the jump at the first big offer type.

If he had some success and Man Utd or Newcastle came in, he’d probably go. But i doubt many others would ‘turn his head’ and I do t see him looking to move on within the next two years. His philosophy takes time to nurture, he’s 18 months into a 25+ year career. I have no doubt he sees this as a long term relationship

I didn't say all player's and managers but it's rife in football.

It cuts both ways though, doesn't it? Results turn bad, what loyalty do clubs generally show managers?!

This is great news (if actually true), and I do hope it encourages key players such as Hackney, McGree, VdB to give us at least another season

Agreed that for a lot of people it’s a job and they’re just loyal to themselves…Carrick doesn’t come across that way, and I don’t say that naively

Well he’s seen our clubs loyalty now, standing by him through a bad spell
