Michael Carrick

Notice how we upped our game after Forss went down and Carrick had them all over for a word.
Who was the last manager we had who made positive changes and tweaks while games were in progress? I mean, looked like they could spot something and counteract it or change a game in our favour. It feels like years since we had a coach of this kind, who does things during games that actually work.

Wilder chucked strikers on when we needed a goal but actual tactical tweaks or pointers or messages, I don’t think we’ve had one for ages.

I can imagine in the dressing room he's not a screamer and shouter and will genuinely put an arm around players and just tell them how good they are. Never looks particularly wound up when a pass goes astray etc. Can imagine it does wonders with this team.

Wilder was the total opposite and would happily chuck others under the bus.
I enjoyed his expression when Steffen passed the ball straight to their player.

Wasn't annoyed, but was a definite wince!

Where's 4 at the back been all season? Clearly it suits the players better. Linihan looks like the CB we heard he would be 👌

Also why has Hackney and Smith been bit part at best? It's amazing how a new gaffer can change things.

That said fairplay to Leo who threw Hackney in straight away. He's clearly seen something that Wilder didn't fancy. He looks class. I imagine he would have been loaned out in Jan or worse left in the summer when his contract runs out. I imagine he will sign a new deal in the next month 👍

Careful we’ve been here with wilder…..

I’ll say this, it just feels right.

you know why, in his presser he went ‘nahhhhhh’ like a proper teessider 🤣🤣
I noted that, an was going to write it up, but thought "nah".....hes the coolest gaffa we`ve had in a long time (y)

A lot of Norwich fans seemed to have picked up on this actually that we reacted to Norwich and changed but they didn’t

Norwich fans have not been happy with Dean Smith for a while. I noticed before the game, various fans vlogs, newspaper write- ups and reports - dont think hes dependable and he lacks tactical awareness. I`m really glad hes not our gaffa:love:

What Carrick has done shows how poor Wilder was.

Carrick came in, no new faces, no pre season matches and lots of away games and has quickly turned things around. How did Wilder get it so wrong?
Wilder had a massive ego he thought he was a king maker. He wrote off Dael Fry this summer after a great season. He unreservedly backed Paddy McNair regardless of his form or the form of other players. Completely wrote off Forss, Hoppe and our entire academy because he thought he could.

The togetherness shown on the pitch today would never have happened under Wilder. We look like a proper team now! Still reluctant to get too excited, but the signs are very good. I hate that this World Cup break is happening now.

Wilder was so one-dimensional, the only way he was going to have success playing with his system was having the right players for the right roles within the team.

Matt Clarke wasn't the answer playing as an overlapping centre halve, and Mowatt wasn't the answer playing as our box-to-box midfielder (although I believe Wilder still wanted him).

He certainly didn't do himself any favours with his refusal so give Forss a run in the team, who ironically would have been perfect for Wilder's system if he'd given him the chance, but he spat his dummy out and decided not to play him due to not getting the strikers he really wanted in my opinion.

Good managers can get the best out of what they have to work with, but Wilder's inflexibility and stubbornness meant it was only going to go one way.

Actually, now that the dust has settled a bit, it's easy to see the damage Wilder caused.
Tavernier might still be at the club
Mowatt and Clarke wouldn't be at the club
Ikpeazu would be at the club, and maybe Boro would have been in the playoffs last season
Connolly and Balogun wouldn't have been signed
Some of the younger players might have been played sooner
Boro might have given the League Cup a better shot

I can't imagine how frustrated Steve Gibson must feel. He signed Wilder on his reputation and Wilder screwed up royally and totally. Carrick came in with next to no experience and immediately turns things round. With all due respect to Carrick, anyone could have made a better fist of this season than Wilder.

Everyone needs to read his book.

The man is a born winner and has the correct mentality to be a success. Learnt from the best of the best and has the all the right attributes to succeed where many of his former teammates have failed in management.

I am intrigued as to what further changes he will make to his coaching set up, assuming the statements when he was revealed that there would be future developments. Meeulensteen (sp.?) after the WC maybe ?
I am also curious as to whether he will try to bring people in during January or will stick with current squad and Academy

Can’t he be just showing how good MC is because I think we have someone special herd mind…stable lad who’s a winner and extremely calm and talented.
