Jim Platt will be signing copies of his book in the club shop today - £25 cash only.
I asked Michael Carrick a question about Seny Dieng after Jim had picked out the Boro keeper for praise in a talk at the supporters club this week.

Q: I was at a talk with Jim Platt a former international goalkeeper for Boro and he picked out Seny Dieng for praise as a quality player in our side. Jim had the luxury of playing in front of a very settled defence in his Boro days. This season our injuries seem to have impacted the defence even more than other parts of the team. Which is saying something.

I wonder if you could say something about Seny playing to such a standard without a settled backline to work with.

MC:
It definitely helps when we have a consistent team, it helps the individuals. I have said this many times. It is the amount of changes from game to game that we have had to take and I think that does make it a little more challenging and the boys have done it really well. In terms of being a defensive unit, I think it helps to have that understanding of playing together all the time as well. There are always players that have come in and out and it is not to say it is going to be the same team every game all season but it certainly helps to have an understanding. The boys gain that from training, you know. As a goalkeeper of course as stable as possible and as calm as possible helps everybody else.

Q: Going back to the Southampton game. Alex Gilbert put in the cross for the equalising goal at the end of the game. He has had to wait a long time to truly make an impact. Does this show there is still time for players to really break through?

MC:
There is loads of time left. Who knows what is going to happen now. There is loads of time left. And hopefully there are bigger moments than that one left in this season.
