I think we have enough [quality] in the players, to be there, create chances….we`re not that far off.

Michael Carrick, in his Media Conference, faced some expected questions today [Thursday] regards the departure of Chuba Akpom and his hopes for the two new signings, especially Emmanuel Latte Lath, whom he acknowledged would be facing a lot of pressure and expectations to replace the departed Chuba. Carrick had a big smile on his face when asked about further incoming`s before the transfer window closes. As always he keeps reporters and fans guessing, until players have signed and got over the line. He stressed the importance of working with the squad to improve technique, style of play and building a unit capable of doing as much if not more than last season. He described where he`s sitting now compared to October last year as a "totally different ball game". There`s been lots of traffic in and out the door. Carrick quoted his experience as a player, Manager and Coach explaining how thats to be expected.

"Thats Football".

Saturday At The Riverside:

The start of the season brings fresh challenges. Results havent been exactly what we wanted but we`re looking forward to whats coming up ….and getting back to the level we know we are capable of. We`re looking to bounce back. I have a lot of respect for what he [Neil Warnock] has done, the career hes had and the teams he`s produced. He knows how to get results, so we have to be very respectful, but find a way of counter-acting and find a way for ourselves. [Compared to the recent Cup game]...things will be different. We are at home, the personnel throughout the team will possibly be different. The style of play may be similar for both teams, but two games are never the same. I`ve had [poor] starts [professionally] before where things have eventually turned out successful. Its up to us to generate that excitement within the stadium.

Comparing now to when you first arrived at The Riverside?

Its a totally different ball game! We`ve had a fair turnover of players in recent weeks, but we know each other fairly well as a group…..I`m confident we will play better and results will turn round for sure. Two games into the season….it is what it is. Its not time to panic by any stretch. Its a long, long season. We are putting things in place that we hope will help us in the long run. Its always keeping an eye on the bigger picture. I think we have enough [quality] in the players, to be there, create chances….we`re not that far off. We need to fine tune and find that edge to be more clinical. That`s football. We have flexibility across the front line and each player offers something different….[so] they can fight for their place in the team. Every week is not the be-all and end-all of that: there`s going to be times when we change things game-to-game and thats a credit to the players different attributes and strengths. The boys know that and sometimes they have to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the group.

Replacements for Archer and Akpom?

You`ve got to evolve as a team….history has proven players come and go in a football team and you`ve got to move on quickly. We`ve got the responsibility to find the best way…..sometimes that`s sticking with like-for-like. Sometimes that`s being adaptable and flexible…..thats the balance we have to find. Chuba: He had a year left…..and Ajax is a big club. He goes with our blessing and best wishes because he`s done so well. I wish we could have kept him. I wish we could have worked something out, but it wasnt to be. We`ve got to accept that. Its about us as a football club and moving forward. We are doing that already and got to think of the bright future that`s ahead. [When people move on] ....that`s the reality. It is what it is and I understand that. Unfortunately, over the years I`ve seen players come and go that I`ve coached or managed…..its always nice to part on good terms.

Two signings this week: thoughts?

Obviously pleased. Two fantastic characters, two fantastic people first and foremost. Both desperately wanted to be here and looking forward to making a big contribution to the group. Gives us flexibility and other options. So, delighted we`ve got them in. we`ve been working to get the right people in for the right positions...it takes a little bit of time to work things out…..but now the men are here and we`re looking forward to them perform well. We are working towards improving….with two weeks left of the transfer window…...

Lath?

Theres a lot of pressure on his shoulders...he needs to find his feet, get used to being around the place and the other players and learning what we expect…..fitting in that way. I`m excited about the way he plays: unpredictable, sharp around the box, gives us something different. He`s got a warm side to him and gives off a real good energy. The boys have felt that in training already. As a striker, as a number nine [so they tell me] he wants to get off to a quick start...but the impact he can have in and on the group is there already.

Incomings?
Its unpredictable at times. We have plans. There is already work going on. We will just have to see how it pans out over the next couple of weeks [Big Smile].

England Lionesses?
They`l be a buzz about. Its an unbelievable occasion and opportunity. Hopefully they`l take it.
