Memphis Police Murdering Tyre Nichols

Cops here are scary, but it probably is the case for much of law enforcement in every country on the American continent. What happened in Memphis isn't the first and won't be the last but despite all the zero tolerance trainings, bodycams and the non-use of firearms, we have another case of judge, jury and executioner by the US police.

Can’t watch it all.. absolutely sickening.

70m from home and stopped for a ‘traffic violation’ sounds to me that these pieces of sh it were waiting for him

Hopefully the truth comes out and the charges changed to premeditated murder

The US just runs on a loop of mass shootings and extreme cases of police brutality. When those in charge only ever offer up thoughts and prayers, you understand why nothing will ever change.

I'm going to disagree and at the same time say I hope not.
We are nothingh like america, nor are we catching up. More school kids get shot whilst in school every year in the USA than servicemen and women. The 5 police officers accused or murder did so whilst their body cams were on, they expected to get away with it. The rare occassion we get policemen committing murder, they don't expect to film it and get away with it.

The differences are stark.

Thats my position too, but I don't particularly feel like arguing about it on a Saturday morning when there is a very pressing game coming this afternoon :)

Of course we're not, suggesting we are is clearly misjudged.

Our police are held to account far more robustly than they are in the US.

The video was sickening to watch. Those 5 officers have been rightly sacked and charged however I don't understand how they are out on bail.

Not sure it's been said but all 5 officers are black. So I'm struggling to understand is it a police issue or a racist issue or a combination of both?

Accountability has been eroded hugely in all UK state organisations in recent years. I'm pretty sure that if there is a police shooting in the next year or so the government (Sue Ellen especially), the tory press and GBeebies et al will defend he police to the hilt, no matter what the circumstances.

I'm not sure thats the case at all.

Without derailing the thread topic too much, the rigour and detail that any police shooting on the UK attracts is absolute.

There is no excuse for what they did but please don’t slander all police. There was 76 police officers killed in the line of duty in the USA a 50% increase on the year before. The best thing to do their is outlaw the use of guns to the Joe Public
