Middlesbrough Mela returns to Albert Park this weekend with a triple bill of delights.

The free multicultural event will play host to an international main stage line-up, the famous market bazaar and a weekend of family-friendly activities for all to enjoy.

Making a full-scale return for 2022, the main stage will be jam-packed with the finest in Bhangra and Desi beats.

Hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Bobby Friction, headline acts include Panjabi MC and Lehmber Hussainpuri.

The stage will be alight with legendary tracks and electrifying performances recognised across the world in both the music business and the movies.

Joining the line-up will be Jenna, Rita Morar, Jodi Dancers, Harvey Sahota, Kuldeep Purewal and Rajni Aarya.

Local community groups will also feature with performances from the Sri Lankan Tees Angels and Chris Don.

A firm favourite at the Mela, the market bazaar lines the avenue of trees and is a shopper’s paradise.

This year, tastebuds can be tickled with a variety of food from all around the world, and featuring a selection of traditional Asian sweet and savoury, Greek, Mexican, Italian and more.

With more than 70 stalls at the event, traders will be travelling to Middlesbrough from all over the UK to sell food, fashion, fabrics and crafts.

Described as the equivalent of a souk or an international market, the bazaar is a huge hit with all visitors.

A time to celebrate and be together, the Mela is ideally placed for a weekend packed with family fun.

Middlesbrough Museums will be making masks inspired by the Mela for visitors to take home and wear throughout the weekend.

Beamish Museum will be exploring stories and encouraging people to peek inside mystery suitcases to see what can be found.

Look out for street theatre performances and walkabout characters as they stroll around the park. Primed for photo opportunities and ready to pose, gather round and make some magical family memories this summer.

There will also be books magic with Middlesbrough Reads, and Teesside Archives will be on site for any history fans.

Three unmissable reasons to save the date and the added bonus is that the event is free.

  • Middlesbrough Mela is in Albert Park on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14.
