Meanwhile, in Sweden...

We could get there but, as things stand, would have to quarantine upon our return, despite the fact that I'm at much greater risk of infection here in West Yorkshire. We'll just go later in the autumn or do a winter trip for some snow fun, skiing and ice fishing.

It would be more sensible to regionalise this Quarantine lark. Even Spain is generally fine, including the canaries.

Meanwhile in Germany....

Does anybody know why thousands of people have marched on Berlin today peacefully?

Hint, you won't find it on the news in the UK

Interesting that you lead with anti-vaxers....

As the protest has absolutely nothing to do with the vaccine.

Conspiracy theorists, antivaxers and extreme right wingers are the description given to the protesters in most reports. Which would you prefer? Lots of antivax placards to be seen. Perhaps they turned up at the wrong protest.

Also the numbers reported are vastly understated. BBC says 15000-17000.

Try 1.5 million people all over Germany.

But I know people will miss the ultimate message and focus on the few placards.

😏

That's a hell of a lot of conspiracy theorists (by the way that was a term invented by the CIA in the 60's).
Reports now saying 3.5 million people across Germany protested yesterday.

The picture in Sweden is very encouraging for the so called herd immunity or community immunity. Maintaining the same strategy as from the start, with some minor easing for the over 70s to be able to see family, they have not seen a single day with double figures deaths since 19th of July. And, even more encouragingly, they haven't had a day with over 5 deaths since 27th July. New cases are running at a consistently low level despite increasingly available testing (on demand in many municipalities). It's a shame I couldn't be there now, but my current location is a fine substitute.

No deaths in Stockholm for a week. Less than 2 per day nationally. 30 people in intensive care nationally (most long term, very few new admissions). Most new cases appear to be amongst the young who seem more likely to ignore social distancing.

you could argue for this way or that way but when we look at everything in the broad light of day getting the virus when you're young/healthy is the only way forward in terms of survival and building immunity-- but who knows the media is full of this and that, and not forgetting the people who argue for extremes.

You are right. And Tegnell, who is in charge of Sweden's effort, actually was talking this week about how confusing things are even for someone as knowledgable and experienced as he is. They are currently trying to fathom out why they are now having such a good picture when they haven't changed anything. They were expecting holidays to bring about a peak that didn't happen etc etc.
