Responding to a question on our appalling child poverty stats, Mayor Preston suggested that people preferred to spend money on "beer and fags".
He referred to a lack of "aspiration".

And he is still pretending to be "independent" even when the full tory is creeping out of him.

It appears he completely fails to grasp the impact of the socio-economic factors at play and would rather make rather insulting throw away comments straight out of the 1980s Tory playbook.

Am not getting involved in the politics and whether he is right or wrong. But context is everything and he doesn't blame people spending on beer and fags does he?
He is talking about food banks and who can and cannot use the food banks.

He's speaking specifically in the context of children living in poverty...
