Maybe we NEED Leo as manager BUT...

Leo has a special place in all of our hearts. The passion he has for the club, team, area and fans are second to none. Boro have supported him through the most horrific of experiences and in turn he gives everything for Boro.

I have just listened to the presser and was struck with his comments about the managers who he has worked with. Experienced - not so experienced. None of them had the formula. I think Leo might just have it.

Leo knows what the club is. He knows what the fans are. He knows what is expected.

BUT... how could we ask him to risk his whole Boro career to give it a shot? I would love it if he could be offered the job with a guarantee that if he failed he would be the U21 or academy coach or something like that. We never want to lose Leo but if he was manager and then got sacked we might lose him.

Maybe I am just being emotional. If he got the job I'd support him 100%.

If you haven't listened to the presser do so - I was welling up! @fmttmadmin's questions at the end were great and Leo's answers were worth listening for especially about the fans and them travelling to Millwall.

risk and reward. He could be the best manager we have ever had. Passion, application and effort are more likely indicators of success than past performance in the managers we have appointed recently.

I have tried to put this into words on Twitter but struggled. It is obvious from the linked article that Boro getting Leo back into the fold was an act of great humanity and kindness from the club. When you listen to Leo speak or read his words, this is far more than a job, it has become part of his being and undoubtedly a source of great comfort and strength for him. Ultimately as far as I am concerned, that is far more important than anything else. He should have a position at the club for as long as he needs one. Eventually when he does decide to move in, that should be on his terms. Becoming manager makes that more difficult.

I cant imagine anyone begrudging him the chance but managers are always eventually judged on results.

So a manager fails and out of sentiment you then entrust him with the future of the club. Thats been a massive problem for too long, ex players and local players getting jobs within the club and not being up to the standard.

Leo seems a great bloke and has a special bond with the club and fans but we must be professional if we want to improve. That probably goes for him staying on as a manager too.

Very impressed with Leo’s press conference. Talks sense and seems to have confidence in his abilities without being arrogant.
Nothing to lose in giving him and Liddle the job until January. They have as much chance of getting the best out of the current players as anyone else coming in who hasn’t already got a connection with the squad. If things don’t go so well, bring in a manager in January and he can bring some of their his signings in.
No reason why Leo couldn’t then revert to coaching for the club.

The problem with Leo as manager is history will be quickly forgotten as soon as he starts losing, and we have a large number of fans who'll instantly turn on him and want him out.

I'd love to see him stay on for 3 or 4 games and for him to win every one of them and fire us back into playoff positions... then step down to assistant under a more experienced manager.

When asked about the permanent job he said the most important thing was to remain involved with Boro

I understand the comments about the risk of him failing as manager, but who is to say that a new manager would keep him on the coaching staff anyway? If he stays as “ interim manager “ until the World Cup, and then we get a permanent manager then perhaps he could go back to his previous role. If we win at Millwall then he is starting to make a case for the job.

I suspect previous managers haven't been given the choice of not having him.

Gareth Southgate was up to the job
Tony Mowbray was up to the job
Jonathan Woodgate did what his was asked.
Leo Percovich did what Chris Wilder couldn't!

Other clubs promote from within, and offer ex players routes for progression.. we are no different.

Zidane, Guardiola, Cruyff.. exactly the same

No, we don’t need Leo as manager

For **** sake , just because someone is popular at the club doesn’t make them a good manager candidate

Shearer relegated the mags
Woodgate nearly relegated us

But what if they didn’t?

Everyone liked the look of Garry Monk.. everyone liked the look of Chris Wilder..
Neither of them were good managers for us.

I want Leo as boss. How far have we come with sensible, steadying the ship, logical, proven managers recently? His recent interviews have shown there's more to him than just chest thumping, he's an intelligent guy. Let's just roll the dice for once, see what happens.

We have rolled the dice ample times with managers . Woodgate being one . The last unproven manager was a F***ing disaster

I swear our fans look to just repeat a loop

The most successful manager we had since the relegation was F***ing pulis , and he’s despised on here by many of our fans . Defensive minded managers have performed far better at this club than attacking minded ones

If we’re to go the unproven route again I want a coach at a top club who has studied under a highly decorated manager and wants to try management . That was essentially mclaren and karanka

I didn’t like monk at all . I thought he hadn’t achieved anything of note to warrant the tag

Did nothing of note at Swansea
Did nothing at Leeds , Leeds were certainly contenders to go up but he failed at it

One word to you sir or madam. That word is this: Boo.

Boo to you, thrice boo. Then 5 more. Boo.
