Maximo Park

I knew Paul as I was mates with the middle brother through school. I even got name dropped in the fmttm interview a few years ago as he'd come to the games with me on our spare season ticket.A certain trigger is a cracking album.

Saw them in San Francisco a couple of years ago. Smith noticed a guy in the audience with a Boro shirt on (Heritage Hampers one) and proceeded to have an onstage discussion (mostly with himself) about past Boro shirt sponsors.

Probably only 3 or 4 people in the whole audience had a clue what he was talking about.

Also check out Paul Smith and The Imitations which is pretty decent too.,
At a DC gig a few years ago, I was the bloke in the Boro shirt and had a good mid-set chat with Paul. I also got some gentle stick from the rest of the band when I got a poster signed after the gig!

Great band, love the first couple of albums. They were just starting out when I was at Uni in Newcastle, seemed like they played an instore gig nearly every week (see also, The Futureheads).

Remember a couple of particularly valedictory gigs at Stage 2 Northumbria Uni and the Academy. Pretty sure Art Brut played with them at the Empire one time, possibly the same tour mentioned above.

They indeed played the empire that tour first time i saw them. Support were Art Brut and the Chalets.

I've seen them a few times on their trips to California. They are a great live band. T_L_J - I have worn my boro top to their shows in SF and I think you and I may have briefly chatted in the street after the show at the independent a couple of years ago? My old band used to do a cover of Graffiti - a really fun song to play!

Think so, back in 2017 maybe was it - you live somewhere in the East Bay IIRC ?

I love Maximo. I think that first album is pretty much perfect. Saw them at the City Hall in Newcastle when they played the album in full. First half of the gig was a 'normal' mix of their songs and the second half was A Certain Trigger, start to finish.
As a frontman, Paul Smith is brilliant. Even at acoustic performances, he just exudes an amazing energy.
