#Boro are reportedly struggling to get a deal over the line for Mallorca striker, Matthew Hoppe

The club we have offered $3m according to this report about £2.44m and Real Mallorca say its not enough. Who do they think he is ....Martin Braithwaite?

Myself I see the guy is at the start of his career. Any more has to be add ons - he could be Payero mark 2. According to Wiki he failed to score a goal last season and only played 5 games in Spain despite being there all season. Is this correct?

Why don't we pay the cash toward a more proven striker - We have Forss and Coburn as young developing striker and could easy pick up a young striker on loan for a EPL team.

Won’t be too disappointed if this one doesn’t happen myself - he’ll be expected to hit the ground running here. That’s quite a big ask for a relative youngster with no experience of this league. Maybe the club see him as more of squad player than immediate first choice though, in which case he might be a useful addition
 
Never heard of him before the recent speculation.
On the one hand it's typical Boro for these things to drag out, but on the other I'm glad they don't want to pay over the odds
 
Just do the deal, we are not in a position to keep looking
Crazy if we take it to the deadline because we wouldn't pay 400,000€ more
We still have to find two other players up front.

Coburn is going out on loan, proven strikers are going for £15m to £20m a piece.. lot of clubs in for young prem strikers.
 
I’ve seen Hoppe play a few times for the US and while he seem to play ok I felt that he was just an average player— I dare say that most American strikers (at best) are very average. I just think for strikers we need to be looking elsewhere.

Theres always the risk he becomes another Altidore
 
5 appearances and one assist last season.

6 career goals in total. Whilst I'm not saying he's not worth a punt.

I'm also hoping we won't be held to ransom. If they are p*ssing us about then move on. They clearly want shot. It's not like we are after the 'star' man.

I think we can offer a better environment than most can't we, no disrespect to the rest of the Championship and Division 1 etc.

I mean Forss has scored on the championship and so has Muniz.

Muniz with more games and Forss fed with with more assists and we’ll be looking ok.

Got no problem with our scouts doing the business and finding players that might suit us & the championship.

I would go so far to say no striker in the championship is worth £15m.. we’ve played that game before and it restricted us massively!
 
Gyokeres is exactly the striker we need I think they’d snap our hands off for £8M plus say £3M in promotion and goals based add ons. He’d be worth that and maybe a tad more. He would be ideal for our style pressing from the front.

Surely he's the player Wilder alluded to when he said they enquired about a Championship striker and been quoted £25 million.

Who else could it have been?

Pretty sure a european team were quoted £8M-£10M early doors for him, they will take near my price toward end of window if offered i reckon, nowt to lose by trying anyway. I think the high figure he quoted waswas for some Congolese hot shot striker at Adana Demirspor.
