matt crooks

I thought crooks was very good in the first few games. Then he has been pretty disappointing the last few games or so(although most of the team have too). If we bring in an attacking possession type manager I can’t see him getting much game time. He works hard, but doesn’t look great on the ball

We are a team full of players who we dont, or they dont know their best position
Crooks
McNair
Tav
Payero
and the ones we do know NW plays them out of position
Fry RCB
Bola LB not wing back
Dijk RB definitely not wing back

I think there is some very unfair criticism of Crooks on this thread.
He has scored two good goals, hit the woodwork at least twice and looked one of our better players in most matches.
I'd agree he has lost a little form in the last couple of matches - but who hasn't?

Siliki has looked awful - did somebody say he can pass the ball?
Payero was so off on saturday.
Tav needs to pull his finger out imho.
These three may emerge as our best players, but they certainly aren't playing like it right now.

I think that's fair indeedido. At least Crooks looks like he is making an effort to pull something extra out.
As an attacking side these days we are so predictable and let's hope tonight that someone is able to surprise the opposition because at the moment it seems that Boro are very average even against average sides.
Tonight we really need to win so there is nothing to be gained secretly hoping we lose and it hastens Warnock's downfall. Surely we do not look forward to shuffling the pack and signing another bunch of players in January ?

I think criticism of Crooks is unfair, he is big, mobile and can score all types of goals, much better value than other players we have bought in the last five years. The goal against Bristol was a case in point would Brit have scored that?

Has a canny knack of passing the ball to the opposition

“Payero was so off on saturday.”
They ran off him once and scored they ran off Howson at least 3 times and missed easier chances

Can’t say I have enjoyed more than a couple of the games. Most so far have been utterly frustrating or in the case of last Saturday rather irritating.
Watching us struggle against Reading reminded me of the end of Woodgate. It was no better. I live in hope that we can put a shift in tonight.

Somebody on the todays team thread suggested playing him as the holding midfielder we are sadly missing, doesn't sound like a good idea based on these comments.

Like his attitude but can't get my head around his supposed best position.
Reminds me of Haroun.
Just hope it doesn't end up like our Millwall transfer debacle.
Go in for Jed Wallace & George Saville.....end up with Sav.
Go in for Crooks & Smith.....

He is a footballer who played in a side relegated from this division last season, and given the main interest in him came from a club in a lower division allied to the fee we paid then its pretty plain he Is going to be relatively limited.

He works hard, wins headers but in the formation we play he just isn’t creative enough to be first choice. Maybe a 442 where he can get forward into the box whilst someone else sits, but not when we play 1 upfront.

Not a massive fan from what I’ve seen, although likely to be more useful if we are in a relegation fight.

I like him, combative and a hell of a nuisance. He’ll chip in with goals and have a good part to play. Admittedly ran out of steam second half.
