Match Thread

We are playing probably the favourites for the division. How can you see that ?

I don't know why Watford would be promotion favourites, although that was their third team. It looked like a really dull match between two equally matched teams. Assombalonga needs to be sacked, not made captain. Boro are still facing the same problems they've faced for years - lack of creativity and attacking threat.

I hope Neil Warnock can find some talent from somewhere but with no money and no area attraction I think it's unlikely. It's going to be another long hard season.

Johnson, Saville and Wing add zero to the side.

Spence poor, centre forwards need to do more although appreciate being fed scraps. My concern about the Morsy signing is he doesn‘t provide anything different from the current squad.

Strange by Warnock not to try anything different. Don’t think we would get anything from the game but would’ve like to see Browne come on.

It’s hard to tell just how good Watford are but I thought they looked fit, strong and organised and they will be hard to beat this year, so on that basis it was a disappointing result but not a bad first performance.

Tav got marked out the game. He's good enough, but if you've only got one thing to stop it's easy.

He shouldn’t be marked out the game, he had the freedom to get into pockets and find space, if he’s getting marked out the game then he’s not moving enough. He’s playing between the mid and not one but 2 strikers and barely touched the ball. He should at least be dragging defenders away from Britt or Fletcher but he didn’t. Did no where near enough. Not a number 10 in a million years. Most his goals in the past have come from him cutting in from out wide. The biggest worry for me was that was actually a attacking line up.

Thought we did OK, but no real cutting edge. Watford defended well, but it was clear that we don’t have enough attacking players to be able to bring one or two on to change a game.

Dijksteel looked good, probably our man of the match for me. Bettinelli didn‘t have much to do.

Tough game to start with, hopefully we can get a few more players in soon, inc Roberts and Woodrow.

Have we actually been linked with Woodrow?

Good player but can’t see us stumping up enough cash for him.

We played like a team who were lowest scorers in the championship last term. Absolutely no creativity or guile in that team fletcher and britt had to feed off scraps

If it's that easy why did juninho at the peak of his powers get marked out of the game. They have to watch the two forwards. Who else?

And yet he put in the set pieces for that Britt and hall, and set up Saville. He isn't going to be the star every week, and given I've

And yet he set up Britt and hall from set pieces and played the ball to Saville for our best chance. Tav isn't the problem.

Bettinelli 6.5 - no chance with the goal, very good kicking off the deck, didn't have a save to make or a cross to catch
Dijksteel 8 - breezed through the game, shut down space, made a few tackles, won headers, and passed well
Hall 6 - caught for the goal but fairly easy other than that
McNair 7.5 - his best game as a CB for a while and was good coming out with the ball
Spence 5.5 - never looked comfortable
Johnson 6 - steady enough, put some decent crosses in
Saville 5.5 - looked off the pace, game was played around and past him
Howson 7 - good steady head in the middle of the park, played some good forward balls, and protected the defence
Tav 6 - didn't get much change out of Chalobah but put the yards in
Fletcher 6 - put himself about 1 good run
Britt 5.5 - effort but no quality

Wing n/a

Thought Howson was class again tonight but needs to be played further forward to supply the forwards. We have played him in central defence, right full back and now ball winner in midfield. Now that Morsy is here, he can play the Clayton role and allow Howson to express himself in his best position which is a number 10. We also need Roberts back and a Centre Forward who can hold the ball up (Zahore)?
