Masks Again

You do realise you can be exempt from an activity but still partake in that activity? Exemption isn't exclusion.

I thought this had been made clear but masks help slow down the spread of the virus, I think they do little to protect the wearer. So, yes, people who are exempt from wearing masks are doing a really good thing. They are doing something they don't have to do, because it may be beneficial to others. It's a really selfless act.

A study has been done by some Danish scientists. They are apparently awaiting a 'brave' enough paper/journal to publish it (their words not mine).

Type danish mask study into Google, then Bing then finally duckduckgo.

I’ve wore a mask consistently for months. Sanitised, washed hands and kept socially distanced. I’ve not been going out, only to work and getting groceries delivered.

I tested positive for coronavirus a week last Friday.

The masks are a waste of time, you’ll get it or pass it on anyway. Plus my partner tested negative twice. Mad isn’t it.

my whole take on me wearing a mask against what others think is that i dont really care...

i look after mine and my families health, i wear one when i think i have to and i could givea toss if anyone else does or dooesnt...

i dont break a sweat thinking about it...

The way I read. The below for example is you only gain exemption if you CANNOT for the reasons stated wear a mask, therefore you are either exempt or you are not. The word cannot for me rules out the distinction you are trying to make.

  • people who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability

[QUOTE="coluka, post: 194136, member: 289", they are simply far to smart to give a fig about .[/QUOTE]

..far TOO smart, may have been more appropriate when giving advice about being smart. 🤔🤔

The mask isn't to protect you, it's to stop you from spreading it if you have it, though it will decrease the chance of you catching it.

Pubs and restaurants been open since 4th July. I know it's easy to use the industry as a scapegoat but you'll be actually be doing Wancock a favour blaming us.
Im not blaming restaurants. Read my comments again. Apart from Universities and schools Im laying some blame at those not behaving as asked.

I know, but thanks for the informative lecture. You must be a scientist?

It didn’t do a great job of decreasing my chance of getting it, as I stated, I’d never had the thing off.

I actually quite like wearing the mask, it keeps your face warm from the cold

Interesting that you say that -- I always wore a scarf in cold weather places anyway -- ok it restricts the air path -- I totally get that but when winter hits I usually go for some sort of facial covering [scarf]-- whatever works for you. I suppose it's common sense in the end that prevails. Moreover being on public transport especially during the winter months is always a huge risk for me for contracting flu causing germs so you just try to minimise that situation. The fallout for me was always 3-4 days in bed with an awful cold/flu which could have been avoided if I'd taken adequate precautions-- but it's sometimes unavoidable [even if you had the flu shot], I mean sometimes people sneeze in front or at the side of you when you least expect it and many don't cover their sneeze. Those people who have asthma can use that excuse but in the end if you catch flu or Covid it's usually nasty-- not only that you'll be on some sort of medication for that down week, it'll [also] take you another 4-5 days just to build up your strength from the virus. Risk versus reward.

The virus can enter your eyes either through aerosol transmission or by you touching your eyes when you have the virus on your hands.

I dare say the majority of masks don't cover the eyes.

I'm currently not a scientist by the way, but I'm pleased you are on the mend.

If you look right across Europe you will see that the countries heavily using the masks and in favour of lockdowns are the ones doing the worst.
I won’t wear one because there’s enough scientific evidence to confirm that they provide no protection to me or others and are more likely to cause me harm either by breathing in fibres from the mask or by touching my face/mask more and thus increasing my chances or being infected.
Anyone with asthma who wears something on their face which restricts their breathing must be trying to earn themselves a Darwin Award

Well that’s a massive statement. Can you provide specific figures for this?

And to reinforce my point about behaviour and universities this is from today’s Times about the increasing infection rate in Sweden. Full article on Sweden Covid video thread.

“The district around Uppsala, a university city about 35 miles north of Stockholm, may be the first to adopt the new measures after outbreaks linked to students, coffee shops and private parties. Last week it had 75 new infections for every 100,000 residents, the third highest in the country. The country has recorded 5,918 coronavirus deaths. In per capita terms the toll has been ten times higher than in Finland but lower than those in Belgium, the UK, Italy and Spain. Antigen tests suggest Stockholm and London have had similar rates of infection, with about a fifth of each city’s population exposed to the disease.

i just think there is no factual or indeed medical evidence to back up that claim. Finland, who are doing better than Sweden have for the last two months asked people to wear face masks reversing a policy in fact. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-08-finland-reverses-policy-mask.html

Are you sure about this? Also what if you look across the world? I'd dare say that Asian countries that enforce lockdowns and are regular mask wearers are doing the best of all
