Marvin Johnson

Marvin Johnson was a useful Championship player for us I can understand those teams wanting him. He has a nice left foot and strong in challenges. I would call him Championship standard not Division 1, An issue with him for me was he was not a defender but not fast enough to be a winger.

I imagine his agent will say he wants what he was on at Boro and the clubs initially say fine - than the agent says £12,000/week? and the interest may drop a bit. Hence he has not found a club yet. He may also be wanted a 2 to 3 year contract.

I would have thought we would have kept him if he was willing to take a wage cut. Given he is now 30 I suspect we would have offered something in the £10,000 range and 1 year contract. There isn't much of a transfer market, fee wise, for 30 plus players i,e lots of free transfers about so the need to give contracts abiove 1 year is less for older players.

I alos get the impression we pay not a penny above the going rate now. I am sure there are still a few Championship clubs who are williing to push the boat out a bit, but they are decreasing in number Or a club has managed to sell a player for a big fee like Birmingham did last season with Jude Bellingham.

for me we didnt get the best out of him, which was probably down to our managerial changes and covid -- he showed flashes of brilliance not to mention he was pretty consistent.

Sheriff - Not sure if he was formally offered a contract, but he was not in the Assombalonga and Fletcher group that we knew were going in April.

ES - He was a bit inconsistent I agree, but I thought NW played him quite a bit, certainly ahead of Coulson- Johnson in contrast never played under Pulis.

Wednesday suddenly seem to have some money - According to Rotherham manager the offered Boro more money to take Wing on loan than Rotherham. I suspect SW are paying all of Wing's wages and now seem to have offered a better deal or as good as deal to Johnson than some Championship clubs and USA clubs.

I'd say both Wing and Johnson are good enough for the champo. I expected both to rock up at a PNE or Millwall 'type' side.

I expect both to have pretty decent seasons. You'd expect Sheff wed to challange.
