Marvin Johnson

One of our best players first half of the season, is he suffering long term COVID impact still? I hope there isnt some sort of contract situation around starting a certain number of games.

I have been pushing Johnson for a long while - he looks like a left winger to me, we can play him and Bola for me. Both have very strong left feet. I would also be tempted to play Johnson up front to the left of Watmore and maybe Bolasie to the right.

He's been arguably one of out best performers. I think he's been really unlucky to be bombed out. I imagine he's probably a bit 'miffed' that the new boys have come straight in.

I think his contract is the same as Fletcher. It's been on the table a while. I'm not sure if it's maybe wages or more so length that's the issue. He's definitely worth another year (think he's triggered it)

I reckon he could play striker. Might not have right physical attributes but he has to be picked , in front of the other 2 non performers.

It strikes me that he is a great impact substitute. I wonder if he is used that way deliberatley or, as someone suggested, he isn't feeling well enough due to covid to play 90 minutes.

Given his impact when he comes on, it seems strange that he doesn't get more starts.

He's one of those players whose sharpness seems to work best when he comes on for 20mins after the full-back has been 'softened up' by Bola or whoever is playing wide for us. He's quick and direct and if you've been chugging up and down for 70mins then you don't really want to see him coming on and driving at you. He's another who has really improved under Warnock. He's definitely worth another year's contract.

Warnock said recently that Johnson had played enough games this season to trigger a years extension but he hasn't decided if he (Johnson) wants to extend.

Warnock also described Johnson as (something like) somebody who always wants to take his bat and ball home after training implying there is a bit of an attitude issue?

If there is one thing Johnson doesn’t have is an attitude problem. What he meant was that is he was upset he hasn’t been starting but in a good way as he’s still performing when he’s coming on showing he should be in the side.

Yes I probably worded that wrong - I think (and I can't find the link now) that Warnock was just saying he could be a bit sulky.

Yep I remember reading the article. I think he means he just upset he’s not playing but that’s it. He should be as he’s proved he’s still helping the team and can feel hard done by. Best way to prove your unhappy is make a difference when you get your chances off the bench and he’s doing that.
