Martin Payero

He would maybe play a bit part for us, Mcgree has shown 10x more ability and competence than Payero ever has. I wanted him to flourish but to be honest I'm not sure he is good enough.
Agree with you, he's simply not upto the standard and looked like a fish out of water most of the time. Not sure what the fascination is tbh 👍

had really poor tactical awareness, looked like he had never really played the game which surprised me
As a centre mid in a three under Warnock, he barely played under Wilder as I recall. I do think further forward he could be effective, but like I said. I think he'll quietly disappear.

Surprised about him not wanting to learn the language. Imagine the doors that would open up to him in all sorts of ways.

Unless he only wants to play in Argentina or Spain perhaps 🤔

Used to playing maybe 15 games a season.. ramping that up to 46 is going to have an impact and it showed. He didn't look up to the physicality of the championship.

It took Mac Allister a while to settle at Brighton (including a loan spell in Argentina). I'm just not sure in the Championship you have the time or luxury to develop players like this. Is it easier in the middle of the Prem to do that?

Aguero never spoke great English but he wasn't a bad player. Great prospect but needs development I reckon Carrick could help him here if he ever came back but maybe that door is closed.

As much as I wanted Payero to be a success, and I also think he may have felt isolated/homesick due to our last manager not wanting him.
Below is a reply I did on another Payero post.

Argentina Primera is the 19th league ranking in the world... the Scottish Prem is higher, and the Championship is the 11th... So Payero cannot get regular playing time in a sub standard league... says it all..

I may be wrong but I don't imagine most clubs would be using an app to communicate with a player who doesn't speak English.

But then we did stick Merson in a house with Gazza to keep him out of trouble.

that might be true, but the top teams are Dutch Eridivisie and Portguese Liga level. So he is competing with that level of player for game time
