Spending this morning publicly listing all the restaurants up and down the UK (has already tagged Middlesbrough) who are offering free meals to children during half term.

Showing this disgraceful cabal of a government what a decent human being with a bit of influence looks like. Only trouble is, having private businesses offering charity to our kids rather than the state will suit these evil ba5tards down to the ground.

This is a step in the same direction as food banks. The Tories stand back and marvel how "everyone is pulling together" and they have absolutely no care that they have created this Dickensian situation. Nor do they have any idea that, in an instant, they could stop this (in the short term).

On a bit of a tangent I am shocked at the amount of people who are commenting that its the parents fault they can't feed their kids and backing the Tories 100% in their stance. What kind of society has made these selfish, self righteous, ignorant greedy c.***s?

Funny you should say that Harry. I also saw his twitter post and it inspired me.

I posted on my local community facebook group that I will be helping families round here with a home cooked meal for 4 (or 2 or 3) no questions asked. I'm going to use my cooking skills for good.

Shocked at how many people have that sort of attitude. The governments media have done a brilliant job in focusing our anger on each other instead of the government. I could sit here for hours and list their failures over the last 8 years which has resulted in this, but lets focus our anger on the benefit claimants living a "life of luxury" on 100 quid a week instead.

But regardless of anything else, hundreds of thousands of kids are likely to go hungry next week. In one of the richest countries on the planet. That has to be wrong regardless of your opinions on the government/parents etc.

Good man! I'll be making an extra trip to my local foodbank. Point is, we shouldn't have to.

Aren't we discussing the lines where we would expect the state to intervene here, do we want a large state running things or a small state?

How does the national insurance and welfare system view this, should food for children (or even for everyone) be part of this given its a basic requirement of life, it's an interesting point of view of where the burden should lie in providing basic food for the public - state or self?

Given the Tories are viewed as a smaller state, lower taxes needed to pay for this party and labour are larger state higher taxes needed to pay for this party aren't we just talking about a fundamental viewpoint of each party and its not surprising that the vote went the way it did along party lines.

We are discussing feeding poor, hungry children whose country has failed them.

I agree Harry but this has always been the case - there has always been hungry children for many reasons. The question is should this not be an additional part of current welfare provision, maybe in the form of vouchers that can only be spent on food rather than money which can be spent on anything?

Apologies for sharpness, am still furious with the shameless tw@ts!

There is a very good analysis of a letter that Gary Sambook wrote to his constituents excusing the removal of free school meals over the school holidays. Phil Moorehouse is very anti-tory, but it is difficult to argue with his conclusions.

An interesting take on a tory, Nicky Morgan saying the tories are starving kids to hit back at Angela Raynor for calling a scum tory MP, erm scum.

This government seem to be scrapping as low as they possibly can. They are making Thatcher look like Mother Teresa.

Quite independent of this Middlesbrough Supporters Forum are currently exploring ways we can help support Middlesbrough Foodbank - there is record demand at present but no football matches to help boost food/funds and publicity.
Appalling that football people are having to step in to do the work of government but we are better people aren't we?

errr isn't what the vote was for, to provide free school meals, not to give some free money to school children, or am I missing your point ?

The answer is yes it should be part of the current welfare provision, but it's left to charities and foodbanks to ensure that children have enough to eat,

I don’t think you can say all football people are better people. Like every walk of life there are good people and bad people

Manchester United are cooking and distributing 1000 free school meals to local primary schools.
Food donated by supermarkets cooked at O.T. and distributed by club staff.
Should not need to do this but the scum drive the actions.
