Nope not once again linked😂

Just read this that he's thinking of packing in football at 27. He's apparently been really struggling with mental health issues and motivation to carry on.

I know he was linked with various decent clubs during a 2-3 year purple patch. He had the best assist stats over 3 seasons in the EFL. I always wondered why no club signed him (all though heard he maybe a big time Charlie etc).

I guess the same happened to David Bentley.

It happens in all sports and does not necessarily mean that something is mentally wrong, they can simply fall out of love with the sport they have chosen to pursue and it becomes very difficult to even admit to themselves after years of sacrifice.

This appeared in cyclingnews only yesterday - a very promising rider who has 'retired' at 21.

I think social media is a big issue for people of his age.
I'd love to say to him just delete all of your social media accounts, seek help from your GP, get your head down and get your family around you every day.
Simplistic I know but that would be my advice.

The history of sport is littered with those that wake up one day and have just had enough, at all levels and at all ages, the pressures and dedication needed to maintain standards can become too much and they just walk away, Bjorn Borg, Nico Rosberg, James Hunt, Eric Cantona, Bobby Jones, Michael Jordan, Justine Henin, Rocky Marciano, Annika Sorenstam, Floyd Mayweather to name a few.

I think the issue is the pressure of sport on the individual rather than outside influences like social media etc

That's sad to read. Hopefully he has good people around him that can bring him through this and he can rekindle the love for the game, or at least be at peace with himself.

Also remember Ronaldo's apparent breakdown at the 98' World Cup. The pressure of the weight of a country sat on his shoulders and his alone.

Not sure I agree with Mayweather though. He'd already made his millions, no real need to out himself in a dangerous position in his sport anymore. He'd already made more than he could ever spend when wrapped it in, plus kept his record.
