Marcus Browne

Fairplay to the lad. Got his head down and has made a couple of great contributions coming in from the bench. Good to see how Warnock is getting something from every one of his players, even ones he fancies the least. Sign of a great manager.

Happy days
Agree, he's done it through his management career, how many years has he been managing & I would bet you wouldn't get more than half a dozen players he's managed who didn't enjoy playing under him

Yeah you can just tell they run through brick walls for him. The Dijksteel touch is brilliant to see aswell with the cake. Players love stuff like that. He knows what he’s doing but it’s just great to see a manager like this at the Boro. Loving it so far I really am

Yes we've seen videos of him blasting his players in the dressing room but the proof is in the pudding of his managerial skills on the field, he knows when to shout & swear & when to put an arm around a player

Passion. Pure and simple. And caring at the same time. A family atmosphere almost. He will know what it’s like to live away from your home and players like Virgil and Marcus have uprooted from the South.

He’s definitely a father figure even grand father figure, the players look like they want to impress him and make him proud likewise when he gives them a bollocking they seem to take it on rather than sulk. His Experiance is invaluable and unlike a lot of older managers he is still relevant.

There is/was a huge myth in the football world about Warnock. There have been a few players whose noses were put out of joint over the years because they perhaps thought they were better than they really were, they were kidding themselves probably too, maybe after being sidelined. Just like any job, you get the odd bitter person that tries to rock boats. Players that knock Warnock are I would argue less than honest with themselves.

Warnock applies the same man management principles we see in our own working lives. We all have worked with positive people and unfortunately the negative ones who when things are not going their way find fault with everyone and everything but themselves. Footballers are no different, some accept responsibility, some wont. I wish I had a quid for every time a staff member took 30 minutes out of their day to explain to me why they had insufficient time to do a 15 minute task, I’d be a lot wealthier for sure!!

He is the best motivator I have ever seen, but he wont accept 95% effort mind. Most players want to run through brick walls for him and their teammates. It works well in all areas of life, not just football. Confidence breeds confidence, especially when coupled with honesty.

It is interesting that Tomlin never got on board with him at Cardiff. I think Warnock maybe saw through him and maybe Tomlin doesn’t put in all the hard work off the field which you have to do be involved in a Neil Warnock team.

it will be his lack of discipline, same reason Karanka got shot, towards the end of the playoff season he was the fittest he had ever been, then came back after the break almost 2 stone heavier so he got shot. Warnock might not be as abrasive as Karanka but no way he would stand for that sort of thing.

Match Reporter a few weeks ago said Tomlinson doesn't train due to knee injuries , he just plays matches and rests in between. Not something most managers would put up with unless desperate , because it doesn't set an example to the others.

The trouble is (and it applies in every job, not just football) you will, in any group, have at least one person who tries to do the bare minimum they can get away with. Their colleagues know who they are, they talk amongst themselves, their peers about the individual, probably laugh and joke with them one one level, but get upset when they feel they are not pulling their weight.

Such people rarely complain about these situations and carry their frustrations around with them. They hope and expect their managers to notice and deal with these problem staff or players. Some Managers will sweep situations under the carpet and lose respect of more people (in football it shows by results), some tackle head on and don’t shy away from doing the right thing, even if it causes ripples. Warnock is pragmatic and tackles man management issues effectively.

Most people like a structure and to know boundaries and where they stand. He isn’t a wallflower, but he does what he can for the good of the team. He is honest, straight forward and tells things as he sees them. He is shrewd and a good judge Imho. Be that the need for an arm round the shoulder, a kick up the pants or a boot out of the club. He is someone the vast majority respect mind, whether they like him or not. In many ways, he is a one off, an enigma, like Cloughie was, but in a different way. His record at our level is second to none.

I think even those videos he comes across as harsh but fair. He might be blasting them but it's not to criticise their ability. It's more of a "you're better than this" angle. Even when losing his temper it's almost still building them up a bit. The passion is infectious and he backs his players to the hilt (his Muscat rant and then going round all the opposition players after beating them saying as he shook their hand "that's for Muscat" was brilliant 😂 ).

Compare to Pulis with his "we're not good enough to go up" and berating his strikers after every match for missing chances. And that's to the media, God knows what he's like in the dressing room.

It's like night and day.

I think that was the issue with Woodgate. He spoke a lot about 'the importance of man-management' but I don't think he actually understood what it was.

It's not just about constantly praising players, even when they underperform. Players aren't daft and probably prefer to be told it straight. It's about gaining that respect with the players so that they want to do well for you but are also prepared to accept any constructive criticism.

Woodgates way of man management was just coming out to the media saying he won’t hammer his players he will back his players. He repeatedly said the same sound bites. He was so amateur it’s quite embarrassing to think he was our manager.

Exactly. As a player how can you learn from your mistakes if you're not being told what they were. As players it must have been confusing as they must have wondered what it was that Woodgate expected of them.

Worked for years with Paul McGrath. Player of the year many times at Villa while not training because of his knees. Mind he was a special player.

I agree, Neil Warnock has got something out of all the players he inherited.....apart from one.
And we all know who he is.
