Maddo and the other one - some needle ?

Fair comment about opening the thread up and commenting.

And yes, clearly some people dont like his style, but it rarely gets brought up when were doing badly and there are other things to moan about.

I remember Ali used to take plenty of criticism on here.
We are not moaning as you put it we are expressing an opinion isn't that what these boards are for. My objection to Maddison is that he is an employee of the club and so conflicted

I don't have a problem with either of them really, I like Maddo's Maddo-isms and think the other fella just does his job. As said above, we were so lucky to have Ali Brownlee, and Mark Drury's problem is that AB was an almost impossible act to follow. You could put almost anyone in the seat next to Maddo and they would have that same problem, Ali was unique.

Not sure if its been said but if you think the tees commentary is bad then go and listen to other clubs commentary teams, ours is national standard compared to some of the others and Maddo makes half of the words he says up 🤣

My objections to Maddison are that:
1. He is compromised as a Club employee. BBC Tees are petrified of the Club, so everyone on there errs on the side of ultra caution; this doubly constrains Maddison.
2. He is painfully inarticulate, which is a problem for a broadcaster.

Drury partly rattles on self indulgently to try and carve an identity for himself beyond Tees and partly to counter the repetitive tripe Maddison serves up.

But, let's remember they are on BBC Tees Radio, paid a pittance and doing their best.
As Coluka says above be grateful Drury is not the ladette that is Jacqui Oatley and at least Maddison cares.

I like Maddo but he is very biased towards us, for a live game I really dont think it needs to be a Boro fan commentating. Would be much better to have a neutral

Not at all there is enough neutrality and downright hostility towards us in the national media without having up to suffer it on our own station.

I like the “get in there” from maddo as the radio is a stream of our support they need to be shouting for us as that’s the point.

Each to their own but I’d hate a neutral, I much prefer someone with a history with the club and I don’t mind Maddison, or Drury for that matter. I was in a completely different time zone for last 2 years so listening to the matches was difficult but I still paid for the radio link, I wouldn’t bother if it was just some neutral commentary.

I don’t think he does copy allies style I think he copies a radio 5 almost neutral style ( more akin to an Alan green) as though he’s on national radio. Hence his shouting as much as much for the away team scoring as us and facts about the chip butty song at Sheffield etc.

The one thing with allie is thar You knew that allie would have been at the game anyway even if he wasn’t commentating as a paying fan he lived sleep and breathed the Boro to him we were the pinnacle this was his club his town his people.

You don’t get that with drury it’s like he’s passing through look at how many games he’s missed this season alone.
Surprising that more of our fans don’t relate to him then. 😬

I think the media have been very complimentary of us this season.
Radio is different, when you can’t see the game having someone describe it who is passionate about the club is great. Just don’t think we need it on a live stream when we can see the game ourselves.

Yes.
The BBC for years used to portray their commentators as neutral - but they became more partisan as those on other stations declared their loyalties up front.
I dont know about anyone else - but I dont want a neutral view - I want bias, passion, loyalty and genuine support for the Boro from a commentator.

I'm sure that, after Brentfords first decent attack, Drury said something like " well that's what we expect to see from them" I thought he sounded like a Brentford commentator.

I think the the usual moaners have nothing else to moan about...the team is doing well, unbeaten in 10.
The new whipping boy Britt didn't play, they had a pop at Wing on his first start for ages. BUT THAT WASN'T ENOUGH....the next target is the BBC Tees commentery team !!!!!

Moaning taken to the next level Boooooo
The moan was about Dury giving Maddo some uncomplimentary verbal , not about the commentary. And more on a human level, nowt to do with football.
