Mad sky stat on Forest the other day.

Hardly we weren’t spending 40m on one player
Adjusted for inflation in player values we were probably worse with the wages and fees we were throwing around. We massively contributed to the current situation imo but you don't care when it's your team and you've got the cash

Hardly we weren’t spending 40m on one player
94-95 we spent about 4.5m to get promoted and in the previous 4-6 seasons we had spent 5m plus with players like Hendrie, Hignett, Payton, Wilkinson etc costing decent fees. Probably getting on for 8-10m in a decade .

We then accelerated in the 95-96 season with about 11m and against a similar amount in 96-97. It wasn't as stark as what Forest have done, anywhere near.

Same time we took our record signing from about 700k to 1m with Cox at the start of 94-95, then on to 1.3m with Fjortoft before the season was out. Then we upped it to 5.25m with Barnby the next season then 7m the season after. So we multiplied our record transfer 10x in about 2 years.

I kind of admire them having a go at it. I bet nobody would have complained if we splashed the cash in the same manner after we went up in 2016
they've certainly bought investment players instead of aged players like Negrado. I hope we have learned our lesson.

As much as they're investment players, it will be a fire sale next summer if they do come back down. They've taken a risk to be fair to them but it could take them years to recover if it all goes wrong.

I’d not be surprised if a lot of these figures are slightly exaggerated TBH. I mean in terms of them being heavily dependent on add-ons and clauses being triggered. People were taking about them paying £45m for Gibbs-White but it’s around half that, with the rest dependent on various achievements. So they’ve presumably ‘only’ committed to paying around £5m per year for five years.

Like Spence in some ways. The press love talking about how Spurs paid £20m for this kid. They didn’t. But that doesn’t sound as good when you’re trying to engineer clicks and likes and drive traffic.

Tbf I think Gibbs-White was £27m + add ons. The thing with these add ons is that if you're having to pay them then the player in question has done well and the team has done extremely well. Either way whether its £27m or £45m, its still a lot for an unproven player. Could turn out to be good business too though.
