Macleans life matters...

No he doesn't bring it on himself anymore than BAME bring it on themselves.
He was born and brought up in a city that has suffered a history that not many people have had to live with.
His position of refusing to wear a poppy is no different to that of BAME people taking a knee.
Yet because the lives of many people who oppose his view are based on xenophobic masculinity they see him as an enemy rather than a principled sportsman.

I personally think the abuse he gets is terrible, but the lad doesn't help himself. Teaching his kids history with a balaclava on doesn't help his cause.

I guess, after years of abuse, people can start to feel bitter/inflammatory. That's exactly the problem.

He's never done himself any favours posting videos of himself singing along to Irish rebel songs, and quoting Bobby Sands on Twitter. He has to realise that doing that will just result in him receiving more abuse, but the reality is he thrives on it. He wants to get under peoples' skin as he hates this Country and is clearly anti-English.

If he'd have simply given his reasons for choosing not to wear a poppy and left it at that I doubt many would have had an issue but he's always loved to antagonise.

I appreciate what you’re saying, but I think he’s anti-British rule in Ireland rather than “anti-English” per se. Given his background it’s not surprising.

I suppose it’s whether you view it as antagonistic or just making a statement. If people are antagonised by it, that’s not *just* his doing. The balaclava tweet wasn’t in good taste though, I agree on that, but as I say, that one came after years of abuse.

There appear to be a number of schools of thought:

He is perfectly entitled to share his view
He is perfectly entitled to have the views but - tone it down (kind of back in the closet mentality)
He shouldn’t have the views

The first one is the only one that works for me

If you disagree strongly with somone's views feeding back your opinion in the form of abuse is just moronic. I hate it when i realise he's playing against us b ecause you know all the tedious abuse is going to come out. The North Stand poppy chanting this year was incredibly tiresome.

Kick It Out have taken it very seriously and 3 clubs were facing fines for away fans reaction at Stoke games.
Myself and the supporters forum had been working with Boro to hopefully put out an anti racism anti sectarianism message ahead of our planned game away at Stoke.

That's celebrating the exact opposite.
It's the celebration of a terrorist plot failing.

Only ignorant people have started to think of it as a celebration of the plot itself.
A celebration of the plot failing by firing explosives into the sky? Yeah that'll show them. We should celebrate the failed plot by the shoe bomber for a few years back or celebrate the terrorists who couldn't fly a plane properly and crashed it into a field instead of crashing it into the white house on that basis.

😀
