Macclesfield Town relegated after EFL Appeal

EFL clearly wanted Macclesfield relegated, so they should have just got on with it in June instead of all this. If the panel is independent why would the EFL need to challenge it?
The comparison with Sheff Wed is interesting. The EFL pick and choose which ones to challenge
Wonder what Charlton fans think of this
Macclesfield fans have - like some others - had an owner that should not have been able to buy a club

I'd love the EFL to explain the difference between this and the Sheff Wed case in respect of for which season the points should be deducted when breaking their rules

Only playing devil's advocate, as I think they should both be punished immediately, but Sheffield Wednesday were charged for historic cheating, Macclesfield were charged for failing to pay wages in this season.

Even more reason why Wednesday should have been deducted this season IMHO

The EFL are showing inconsistency in accepting the independent panel on one and not the other. Why bother having an 'independent' panel if you're going to pick and choose which verdicts to accept?
I feel sorry for Macclesfield fans because of the way the EFL have more or less pushed this through
Hopefully they'll get a better owner than the one who's just left

There is no doubt at all that the EFL have applied inconsistency here. Also i have no doubt in my mind that the reason is one of hierarchy and history. EFL have not liked the situation where players have gone unpaid and have had it in for Macclesfield.

It doesn't surprise me. The EFL run their sport with all the logic and ability of a committee of a working mens club.

True, but having been found guilty should the penalty not have been applied immediately? (Which would have meant relegation to League One).

No doubt Sheffield Wednesday would have come straight back up, but it's not really the point. This way they can really plan for next season, (and the -12 points), and be much better prepared to avoid the drop.

There’s an argument this might hit Sheff Wed harder as they may well get relegated next season and have difficulties attracting decent players.

2 years of misery instead of just the one.

Except they still seem to be 'in' for some pretty decent players. (As reported in the press) - which I accept, you can sometimes take with a punch of salt!

If it was a 21 points deduction, I'd agree with you. I have a mate who is a Luton fan. The season that Luton were deducted 30 points, he said it would have been better to have just been relegated the year before, as they were never going to overhaul it.

That's desperately unfair on the committee.
