Tackled the beast 3 times (first time failure thinking it was smart to start having got tanked up in Osmotherly)

Not sure ‘enjoyment’ is the right word for the whole shabang - some dreadfully boring and peaty bits.

Good fun with the right people tho

Some of my mates did it a few years ago and got lost. Thankfully I'd been busy that day. I think they completed it in time but it sounded awful trudging around on the Moors in the dark for the last few hours not knowing where they were going. Didn't feel any real envy I have to say.

One of them was trying to do it in flip flops I think and he sacked it off half way through haha.

Me and my mate did it the other year. Started 8pm finished at 1pm the next day. Only day off we could both do in June and it rained and was bad wind for the first 20 mile. Got a bit better after blakey. A lot of boring scenery, miles upon miles of Heather with not much else to see. RAF Fylingdales is like a mirage on the horizon for hours!

Wouldn't mind giving it another go. Maybe from east to West so I've done both ways. A lot fitter and a few stone lighter now too aswell.

Done it once 12h 59mins west to east, pretty much solo, I did enjoy it, though was painful couple of days after, despite many months & miles of prep & training walking the the route in 4 sections: out & back, to prep'

I think it's 70 years old fella, but still 👍

Did it a few times as a teenager raising money for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team. Our Geography teacher Mr Finch was a member then & I see he's still going strong with them now at the age of 80.

I ran it a few years back with a few mates.. decent day out but i’ve ran much more enjoyable routes than that.

Done it a few times and led a group or two. It’s can be a pretty relentless slog at times, but can also be quite sublime and exhilarating - especially at the end.

Judder Howe and the endless trek to Ravenscar mast - that NEVER gets any nearer - takes every last atom of energy you have left. That’s an interesting voyage of discovery.

And then you realise that you’ve finally F***ing done it and it’s like a firework going off - albeit a completely arthritic, knackered firework who just wants a beer and three days in bed.

Personally. I love(d) the overnight section from Osmotherley over to Blakey - the challenge of the navigation and just in time for breakfast at The Lion. Dawn looking down from the top of Farndale and Westerdale is pretty special.

Whilst it’s true that the moors and bogs can be pretty s***y in the wet, it still remains an awesome ‘right of passage’ across the entirety of our hills and is something that all Teessiders should have under their belt. If they’re physically capable.

If only to vow to ‘never do it again’! 🤓

Did it twice in my teens 14hrs and 16 hrs if my memory is right? I also ran the last few miles I just wanted it over
