Lost from the bench

I get the feeling he doesn't think the bench are good enough - or he would bring more on. Gilbert has looked ok in his couple of cameos ,but not seen too much of him
I thought Rogers and Silvera weren't too good when they came on

Hulls 5 subs made an impact, Rosenior changed things round and it paid off, they were getting beat so he had to do something.

We just didn't have those options, we are just going to have to wait until we get some.players back and hope we aren't too far behind the top 6 by that point 👍
Even when we do have the options Carrick won’t try anything different. He just replaces like for like and hopes for the best. So frustrating.

Why not give one of the young lads a look in tonight? We are having to put a few of them on the bench at the minute, but might as well tell them to keep their tracksuits on if we have absolutely no intention of using any of them.

Whatever you think of Carrick subs hull were awful before their subs and awful after. The subs didn't impact the game at all.

Carrick had zero options on his bench to change the game.
We are down to the bare bones. Just about able to field 11 competent players nevermind another 5 to change the game.

Crooks looks totally burnt out.

The subs who came on made little difference I felt, certainly Sammy Sultana who is dog$hit
Silvera was brought on in the 83 rd minute when it was already a lost cause. Should have been on for Jones at least 15 or 20 minutes earlier , maybe even when we were still 1 nil up, as Jones had zero impact on the second half.

Eh?? They totally changed the game for Hull. They created more, they added an extra zip to their play and they were often quicker to the ball. Oh, they also helped them get all three points.
Except that's nonsense. Comparing halves they had exactly the same amount of shots on target in the first and second half. They conceded more possession in the second half and had fewer corners in the second 45.

They were equally ineffective in both halves. They were lucky to score 2 in the second 45 with the chances created.

These are statistical facts.

I can see why Carrick didn't change anything hull were woeful and we contained them and were creating chances.

Not a good game, but one we didn't deserve to lose.

I can too, carrick didn’t change anything because he didn’t have to, we were winning.

But, you could feel the momentum shifting, and the Hull subs switched things up, and we were far too late to react.

Carricks MO seems to be always reactive and rarely proactive. I love him, but it frustrates the hell out of me.

It's difficult to argue after the fact but isn't this eagle eyed hindsight.

BTW I would have made changes a bit earlier too. There were enough poor performances to warrant a change. I just don't think they would have made any difference given what we had available on the bench.

There’s been a few games where we crying out for fresh legs way earlier than he’s made the change and sometimes we’ve gotten away with it other times we haven’t.

Rodgers can only play centrally, there is no point in bringing him on and playing him wide it’s not his position and he doesn’t look comfortable there, if he won’t take him off then he should of moved Crooks deeper and brought Rodgers on for Barlaser. In the little we’ve seen Gilbert is a better option wide and he puts the work in tracking back.

Silvera is okay on the left cutting inside but can’t pass or cross so useless on the right.

The ‘fact’ is that the subs helped them create chances that they didn’t make in the first half and that they got three points. After the first half we notionally had three points, after the second half they actually had three points. Their substitutes helped them achieve that both defensively and attacking-wise. They frustrated our attacks, defended for their lives and scored two goals. Were they lucky? Maybe. Were we unlucky? Definitely. But those two facets can’t be measured by statistics.

I usually (99%) agree with your posts and assessments, but we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

While I think there's a case to be made for much earlier subs, given we were winning, how would this board have reacted to say Crooks and Jones being replaced by Silvera and Rogers, had we ended up losing. Manager's job is easy with hindsight.

A lost cause after 83 minutes?
We brought him on as soon as we conceded. You make it sound as though we were getting hammered and Hull were out of sight
We were only 2-1 down, and had enough chances to equalise or even win the game in those last 12 minutes. And one or two of the chances actually fell to Silvera. He puts one away and it is suddenly an inspired substitution.

Lost from the bench? The lads behind us certainly thought so. When we went behind their childish torrent of invective and abuse aimed at a variety of players (i.e. those close enough to hear) eventually blew itself out so they switched their attention to Carrick .......... "why didn't he bring Coburn on" they demanded.🙄
