Looks like payero to Boca

…..and yet a small provincial club like boca juniors want him

🤔
And a small provincial club are letting him go without a fight. So what?

From our perspective he didn’t do enough when he played and always looked off the pace and lacking in physicality.

He wasn’t suited to the Championship. It happens.

Good luck to him but it never felt like it was gonna work here.

Reading the thread its pretty clear this wasn't all of "our" perspective.

Sounds like confirmation bias on your part then!

Well from the clubs (“our”) perspective it clearly was the case, which is why I said it.

So you think it did work here for him?

He was never given a chance

Played less than 600 mins

In his 4 full appearance we won 3 lost 1 and he scored in on of them.

Plus he contributed to one of our greatest cup nights in years. At old Trafford.

So what didn’t he do then.

Along with all clubs operating under FFP we have finite resources. Looks like the club have decided we can get better value elsewhere.

Eh, We are not a small provincial anything.

My point was boca are a huge side and so for them to value him shows that he has something worth preserving with.
And we aren’t a huge side and we don’t want to persevere with him.

It didn’t ever look like it was gonna work out for him when he played. As has already been said, he was always off the pace when he played and lacked the physicality of The Championship.

Boca aren’t in the Championship but they are in a league that Payero showed promise in so that’s probably why they thing he’s worth a punt. And his value has come down since leaving Argentina so it makes sense.

I’ll assume all that is accurate but ultimately he clearly didn’t do enough for two managers.

He played in games we won? So did Lumley. He played in the Man Utd game? So did Lumley. He scored a goal? Great, but when he played he generally looked on the periphery.

I’m not writing him off as a player. He showed some skills and glimpses of ability and vision but I don’t think he’s suited to our league or style.

Anyway, you need to have this conversation with Wilder really. He must have a similar opinion to me.

From what I can gather, Wilder wants promotion this season. If Payero wanted to stay and Wilder felt his skills would help us to that end, he would keep him. As Wilder described when discussing Spence, all 3 parties have to be happy with the deal for it to happen. We would definitely need another midfielder in though.

Don’t think we should be writing him off just yet, but if he has an offer to go home and it’s where he wants to be then it’s probably for the best that we shake hands and say fair enough. Even if it’s only for half a season. He‘s clearly got talent but the championship might not be suitable for him. Either way we need a CM who is going to do the business this coming season. Whether it’s him or someone else, they need to hit the ground running.

I’m not disagreeing with you and I have no issue with wilder doing whatever he wants as he never bought him.

My issue is with warnock he was bought under his watch and yet he never gave the kid a chance. Infact he seemed to go out of his way to talk him down at every opportunity.

Or the club. I always got the impression that NW thought he was bigger than us.

Maybe another factor - alongside Boro, Boca and Payero wanting to make a deal - is that if the club have committed to paying Banfield a fee over whatever his contract is, then offloading him doesn't just free up his wages; it also gets the amortisation fee off the books as you'd expect that a part of the deal would be Boca paying that on our behalf. Which would free up more money for Wilder to spend on players he trusts.

I *think* that's how the amortisation works, though @indeedido has a far better understanding of that than I do.

As much as I thought(hoped) there may have been a good player in Payero, I'd rather the club acted decisively to support the current manager and his objectives. He's had plenty of time to watch Payero and work with him so if they've decided to part ways then good luck to him back in Argentina. Let's be honest, he barely played so won't exactly leave a hole behind him.

Really not bothered orher than the waste of money spent . Could be just another player not suited to the English game (wouldn't be the first ) , but I saw very little that suggested he would be a major influence on our team .
