Looking at the race for 2nd place objectively

The top 6 has got tighter but the gap to 7th hasn't. Realistically 4 wins out of 9 would probably secure a top 6 spot.
7 wins and two draws
or 8 wins and one loss

the situation hasn't changes.. we have nine games to pick up a minimum of 23 points

9 wins in a row equals our wins in a row record.. places us on 91 points and could have us champions if Burnley are hit with a 12 point deduction.

most likely we hit the playoffs.. which before Carrick arrived was not looking likely at all. the playoffs will be a tough old fight!

If we win on Saturday and win at Huddersfield and they lose to Norwich it’s back to feeling like a real possibility again in my eyes so certainly not giving up yet
And……9 games….a lot can happen! Poor ref decisions, injuries, good unexpected performances from other championship teams….etc etc….many twists and turns I think

I think it'll be much clearer by easter. I expect/hope to be close to them at that point and then it comes down to nerves/luck/fine margins

If we need to have 7 wins and 2 draws or 8 wins and 1 loss then they need 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses which, when you look at their fixture list looks very likely

That said, they are clearly a good team with an indifferent manager which……could be the difference when the pressure is on….

There is going to be a big twist at some point and whether that’s a bad ref decision for them, a sending off or a manager’head fart’ by heckingbottom…..who knows but I think he is limited and culpable so hopefully we test him….to the fullest 🙏🏻

I'd say an effective team for the championship and probably enough to get the points needed to get over the line in second place. However, very likely to come straight back down by some distance, unless wholesale changes are made (new ownership, manger, etc.).

Despite all the results up the top end of the table going against us this week I still think it'll go to the last game. I've always felt it was going to be a last day shoot out and I've seen nothing to change my mind, there will be a few unexpected results in the final games, there always seems to be.

People often say we limped over the line under Karanka with a succession of draws. I would never describe it as that, but those draws are an indication of what pressure can do to people. We have Mr Zen managing Boro and he probably knows more than anyone about playing in pressure games, I'm sure he can impart some wisdom and help the boys out. It ain't over until it's mathematically impossible.

Pip them at the post on last day.
Cov 2-1 up.
Boro need to win and its 10 mins to go.
Gyokeres heads towards Boro goal down the middle, Johnny nicks the ball and passes it out to Giles who flicks it to Archer - bang! Straight in the top right - hand corner. Three minutes of injury time and McGree is brought down in the area.
Penna!
Chuba steps up, sweating and looking nervous.
Wangs the pen to the left - comes back off the post and smacks it into the net on the rebound.
The final whistle blows.
Boro get promoted an the fans invade the pitch, put Chuba on their shoulders an chair him round the pitch.

They need 17 points we need 23
5 wins and two draws or 6 wins for them.

Meaning we need to see 3 or 4 loses from them vs us with only 1 or 2

Realistically we need to see them with 4 loses..

Norwich away?
Burnley away?
Bristol at home?
and then one from
West Brom/Preston at home
Huddersfield/Birmingham away

Meanwhile we beat Burnley & Norwich at home.. then Bristol and Luton away
Preston won’t be a walk over, Huddersfield could be a banana skin

I’m saying we’ll drop more points that’s just how this league is.

So for me form is largely irrelevant it’s about will we run out games.
The likelihood is we could run out of games but again we have performed outstanding to be in the position we are inn!

Hopefully we win on Saturday and make it 3 points, that then puts a little more pressure on Sheff u post international break.

I hope Sheff u beat balckburn after extra time and pennas and go as far as possible as it will be a distraction to league form IMO.

Again we can only effect our performances and hope we do enough to firstly stay in the play offs which is going to be tight till the end and second hopefully we can capitilize on a Sheff U slip up

Its all a lottery, no game will go to plan, we just have to keep pushing and see where we end up!

Consistency is key.

Huddersfield and Cardiff weren't great footballing teams in recent years, but they managed to get results over a full season.

We definitely weren't a great footballing side for the first third of our season, and it's cost us.

How long do the celebrations last before they realise the penalty was disallowed because the penalty taker hit the ball twice in succession? ;)

Chuba scored a similar penalty only a couple of weeks ago - so no problem.
Hows the wrangle over the debts and who owns the club [?] going at the moment?

Did the goalkeeper tip it onto the post, then?

Debts - no idea. Who owns the club - a very complicated tangle of holding companies that ends up in Delaware. Ask me again in 30 years when the documents are released!
